By the mid 1960s, vast swaths of Manhattan's Lower West Side were abandoned and decrepit. Once bustling with busy piers, wholesalers and stores, all that was left were shuttered fossils from the past. West and Chambers Streets. New York. 1966.

I still recall when New Haven looked like this. The plan was to eventually widen State Street (in the center), so a lot of adjacent abandoned old 19th century factories and buildings simply had to go. The city was in its final industrial years. March 1971
