In the first few weeks, their coats change from gold to a light cream colour (called lanugo). Their mothers scratch off the lanugo, uncovering a more waterproof coat.

Seal pup, just a few days old. Still very much a golden child... Most of the pups were either sleeping, or rolling around. This pup was quite animated!

This was the newborn I posted last week. We went back in hopes that the new pup was finally feeding as we couldn't see. When we returned, his mum had moved, leaving the golden child fed and somewhat desultorily washed... though she must have been tired!
