When this neighborhood in Milford, CT was a beach resort in the early 20th century, the Sauter Hotel was once of the places where tourists used to stay. By 1958, it was up for sale and this is a real estate photo of the old hotel.

Trouble in paradise. After being a beach resort neighborhood for roughly 80 years, by the mid 1960s there were quite a few old abandoned and decrepit beach cottages on the Long Island shoreline. Milford CT. Feb 1966.

Merwin's Beach with my LA cousins, my sister and one of their friends creating sand cities at low tide. The Surf Club cabanas at left. Every single one of those cottages has been replaced by expensive houses and condos. Milford CT. Aug 1973

KRRRRUNCH! End of the road for yet another 19th century cottage on Merwin Avenue. Dozens were built to accommodate the tourists who once came here for the beach life. By the '70s, many were either abandoned or uninhabitable. Milford CT. Aug 1974
