Hognose( Kitty Todd thought this might be a blue racer but it's a hognose. These little snakes are polymorphic! They mimic the top predator in their area. Its part of their survival strategy.)

Hognose ( He is raised up and hissing at me because just making like a cobra didn"t scare me off.)

Hog Nose These are harmless ! Their survival strategy lies in deception. They will mimic the most dangerous snake in their environment. This one was masquerading as a water moccasin. ( if you are a Wind in the Willows fan, This is Mr Toads worst nightmare

Hognose Thought it was going to slither by unnoticed. It didn't work ! There is a wet area about 50 yds further down with frogs. He was probably headed there.

Common Water Snake. I finally caught some of these out in the open. When i approached they didn't turn and run ( bad sign ) I got as close as I could. Every time I tried to move in a little closer the big one raised it's head toward me.
