smeeon: For those of you who know me you might have learned that I have metal plates in my arm from an injury I had as a teenager. Well this is actually the second set of plates and the current ones installed. The first pair were removed(and I promptly gave them
smeeon: Wayne gettin down in his Groomsman's gift from David and sportin the garter lol
smeeon: David's grooms cake
smeeon: Just held up the metal box and used it as a template as I wanted it to be very snug.
smeeon: I added some extra screws through to the front to assist with extra support and strength. I didn't want this to be a hazard. I used a power cord I cut off a broken power tool, I knew I hoarded.. I mean saved it for a good reason.
smeeon: Here you can see the mounting method under the plastic insert.
smeeon: This is mounted in with a single screw through to the outlet behind it. Won't be pulling loose easily.
smeeon: Routing the wires was easy, I just poked through the bottom of the couch in the middle away from the pinching mechanisms of the recliners.
smeeon: Final fitting. The extra width from the alumiclad made it a little tighter but a good solid snug fit. Screws went through this into the couch frame for added support.
smeeon: Final product, total time involved was around 1.5 hours.
smeeon: Meet Ric the newest member of Smeeon's halfway home for prop displays. Everyone say hi, he is gonna be around for a little while at least until I build his high tech home :)
smeeon: On the dance floor
smeeon: Venus Hum at Chris and Leah's wedding an unexpected surprise!
smeeon: I'm really loving working with a laser cutter for projects. This little experiment turned out fantastic and I hope to make more in the future :)
smeeon: Extra room for the wiring, this whole thing is glued together, no easy access so I made it simple.
smeeon: Pre-cut slots for the LEDs.
smeeon: Laser, Doing it's thing. Finally found a perfect use for this fluorescent "red" acrylic that I've had for years that actually looks orange.

smeeon: Commandeered some flicker candle bases so the winners can switch the LEDs on and off and also replace the batteries for years to come. I estimate one battery will power these for 7-8 hours. Probably longer
smeeon: The Phoenix logo was very delicate so I added a back flame to support all the detail. I'm very excited about how they came out! Good luck to the contest entrants!
smeeon: Finished, they smolder with special candle like LEDs.
smeeon: Toroidaling a hollow sphere at midnight (new word yay me)
smeeon: A little lumpy, but a minor success ! Thanks Pamela for being a model.
smeeon: Ready for first pull
smeeon: Ready to slush cast
smeeon: Like a glove
smeeon: De-molding, the fiberglass mother mold came out great, the silicone jacket is not as thick as it should have been. Lesson learned, my first hand experience with this type of shell mold will be very useful for the future so I'm coming away with a lot of us
smeeon: Happy Birthday Mimi. Enjoy your Meme cake ;)
smeeon: Home stretch, one more layer of kitty hair and I can demold tonight. Sunny afternoon will make quick work of the resin.
