rozoneill: We were not so smiley at the end of the hike!
rozoneill: Walking in a winter wonderland
rozoneill: The trail was in turn, icy, snowy, and muddy
rozoneill: Water drops on a fence turned to ice drops
rozoneill: And now the uphill "fun" begins!
rozoneill: It'd be nice if the sun came out as we slogged uphill
rozoneill: The hills of the Habitat were uncharacteristically covered with snow
rozoneill: Day is just about to dawn
rozoneill: Morning sun on a snowfield
rozoneill: View down into frigid Blacktail Basin
rozoneill: Up was what the Powerline Road trail was all about
rozoneill: Morning mist catches some of that morning sunlight
rozoneill: Deer paths intersected our trail here and there
rozoneill: Critter tracks were a common sight in the undisturbed snow
rozoneill: Powerline Road is aptly named
rozoneill: Lane stops for a breather and to admire the local electrical power grid
rozoneill: The angular geometry of an electrical tower
rozoneill: A thin layer of mist forms in the basin
rozoneill: A snow-covered slope above the basin
rozoneill: If anything, the trail had gotten steeper
rozoneill: A temporary respite from the steepness
rozoneill: The tip of nearby Scott Mountain made an appearance
rozoneill: Just a beautiful day at the North Bank
rozoneill: Scott Mountain looms beyond East Boundary Ridge
rozoneill: Definitely the road less travelled today
rozoneill: One more big climb to go
rozoneill: Melting snow turned the trail into boot-sucking mud and goo
rozoneill: Now commences yet another uphill slog in the snow
rozoneill: A small herd of cattle wonder why humans are walking up the hill
rozoneill: Cattle forage for what little fodder they can find
