PeggyJG: This is the sweet bear who locally swam from NW island to island looking fruitlessly for a mate. He was eventually safely transported to a more possible site and we are waiting to hear if he has found a partner.
PeggyJG: London, U.K. I love old Victorian Buildings.
PeggyJG: Gorvello, Britagne, France. French milk cows. Go ahead, you can laugh! These shy but curious cows stood so close together, I couldn’t count the legs.
PeggyJG: Bretagne. We are at the 47th parallel and it feels a lot like home.
PeggyJG: Carnac, Bretagne, France. We have been to Carnac before but felt the need to see it again. There are thousands of amazing aligned stones. The thing about the stones is that they are OLD...dating from 4000 BC. It’s very humbling.
PeggyJG: Gorvello, Brittany, France. Just a bit of a courtyard. Le Chateau du Plessis-Josse is an example of a manor house from the high feudal period of Brittany.
PeggyJG: Gorvello, France. This is where we are staying. We have a small apartment in the upper floor of this charming building.
PeggyJG: Gorvello, France. This is the view from our bedroom in Gorvello. This is the first cloudy morning we have had.
PeggyJG: Gorvello, France. We are in the farm country of Brittany. It’s very different from being in farm country in the states but the tools look the same. Beyond this tractor is a stack of my current obsession, plastic covered hay bales. This time in sky blue.
PeggyJG: Brittany. The coastline here is rugged and rocky, it requires many, many lighthouses. This one is near Doëlan which we discovered while exploring small villages.
PeggyJG: Theix,Bretagne, France. We were driving down a country road when we came upon this pile of pink marshmallow covered hay stacks. We’re still smiling.
PeggyJG: Arzon, Bretagne, France. What could be prettier than a Britagne stone house and multicolored hydrangeas?
PeggyJG: Arzon, France. This is the view from the front window of our Air B&B apartment in Brittany. Beautiful white or stone cottages with slate roofs. There’s something very peaceful about the repetition.
PeggyJG: Brittany, France. We have been in southern France and really found the heat oppressive. As we drove north into Brittany, we were so happy to see the clouds!
PeggyJG: Orléans, France. We were walking around the Ste-Croix Cathedral in Orléans when we saw sketches on the tiled floor. They were plans etched by the original builders. This kind of thing fascinates me.
PeggyJG: Orleans, France. We drove through beautiful fields today, from near Moulin to here. It’s HOT today!
PeggyJG: Provence, France. We are very lucky people to have friends in the South of France. The country roads there are often shaded by massive plane trees. So tranquil.
PeggyJG: Pampaneira, Spain. The beautiful terraces above this tiny Alpujarres village were first farmed by the Moors who had settled here before being expelled from Spain in 1620. It was an arduous, hilly drive to get here today.
PeggyJG: Lanjarón, Spain. We have returned to Spain for a few days but now we are visiting the beautiful white villages of the Sierra Nevadas.
PeggyJG: Vienna, Austria. After walking around the Hundertwasser neighborhood, we took a break sitting by the nearby Donaukanal. This water from the Danube River looks glacier green to me.
PeggyJG: Vienna, Austria. More from the beautiful Naschmarkt.
PeggyJG: Vienna, Austria. View from our Air B&B window. Vienna is really interesting. The buildings are either over the top Baroque or efficient, solid looking and plain. This seems to be a rather nice apartment building in a middle class, residential area.
PeggyJG: Vienna, Austria. We spent a few hours at the very old Naschmarkt, admiring the colorful fruits and veggies.
PeggyJG: Vienna, Austria. Learning a watercolor style here in Vienna.
PeggyJG: Vienna, Austria. When in Vienna, one must have a coffee at an elegant coffee house like Cafe Central. The pastries too, really are amazing.
PeggyJG: Haarlem, Netherlands. We are back in the Netherlands after a visit to intense Cologne. Haarlem is so pretty and peaceful and it is easy to imagine life here in the past.
PeggyJG: Cologne, Germany. This is the view from our hotel window. It looks pretty grim but it’s actually a great location, near the train station and Cathedral. Also, we have very soundproof windows and a hotel with a “we try harder attitude”.
PeggyJG: Cologne, Germany. It took me a while to even like the Cologne Cathedral. Much of the stone appears charred and blackened because of the combination of sulphuric dioxide in the rain and the result is kind of creepy.
PeggyJG: Amsterdam. This is a collage view from an open boat canal tour of Amsterdam. Everyone should do this at least once. The gin and tonics are great!
PeggyJG: Amsterdam. We are too late for the fields of tulips but not too late for the wooden tulip souvenirs!
