foodforfel: So work had a full poke bowl bar for our afternoon happy hour snack. Like, bowls of salmon, crab and tuna and roe for the taking. I can't even.
foodforfel: Hot meatball sandwich with a smile. Enjoy the beautiful day out today!
foodforfel: The boyfriend's got skills! Fried coconut shrimp for dinner. Not pictured: A dipping sauce made from my homemade ground cherry jam.
foodforfel: I love that @blueapron posts their recipes online. Their recipes are always full of seasonal produce, which is great inspiration when I get veggies in my CSA! For example, this pork pozole used this week's tomatillos and radishes.
foodforfel: There is something so beautiful about a real NY bagel with nova.
foodforfel: 3 dozen of the freshest oysters I've had yet this year...so good, in fact, that we ordered an additional dozen later. (After which I learned: 4 dozen oysters for 2 people is WAY. TOO. MUCH.)
foodforfel: Breakfast pizzas!
foodforfel: Frozen shrimp and pizza dough are, in my opinion, two of the best staples for a quick dinner. Tonight I combined the two, along with fresh mozzarella, sautéed zucchini, garlic scape-fennel pesto.
foodforfel: Dandelion greens with roasted peaches and Gorgonzola in a balsamic vinaigrette. (My cooking is so much more adventurous in the summer...gotta thank my CSA for that!)
foodforfel: It's been a while since I posted one of my culinary concoctions!Tonight's dinner: Penne alfredo with chicken, bacon, caramelized onions and fresh fava beans.
foodforfel: Yesterday, Central Restaurante was named the No. 4 best restaurant in the world, and I was lucky enough to have dinner reservations last night. Their tasting menu is very different from anything I've tried before, with each course composed of unique ingre
foodforfel: Yes, I was that person - I stunk up the flight back to the U.S. with leftover beef heart anticuchos (meat on a stick) from Grimanesa Vargas. They're so tender and have none of that usual metallic/iron taste. (Even when cold!)
foodforfel: La Picanteria is the best seafood restaurant we've been to in Lima. Their ceviche was our favorite out of the three we've tasted and their sudados (fish soup) was so freaking flavorful!
foodforfel: It's my second to last day in Lima, which means I need to eat as much ceviche while I still can! El Mercado's namesake ceviche made from the fish of the day and topped with fried calamari.
foodforfel: Two days late but what do you expect from wifi in the Amazon rainforest? Chifa (Chinese-Peruvian) fried rice for lunch on our way into the jungle.
foodforfel: Finally tried cuy (guinea pig) today! Under all that cute furriness, they're quite ugly underneath. (Also, although they're tender, they're not worth the effort to eat.)
foodforfel: Papa rellenas filled with lomo saltado. Ollantaytambo "fine dining" while waiting for the train.
foodforfel: #PaunchPalsinPeru is on! First off, La Mar Cebicheria's causa boat. We saw someone order it and had to have it...and then the table next to us ordered it as well ;) (Note: Peruvian causa is sort of like Japanese nigiri but swap the rice for potatoes.)
foodforfel: This was the BF's must-eat this past weekend and, with all the Deflate-gate talk, it seems appropriate to post: Tom Brady's favorite dish - the bolognese from La Morra.
foodforfel: Boston lobster rolls > NYC lobster rolls. (Like it was any competition.)
foodforfel: Torigara shoyu ramen at Ramen Lab. Their char siu melts in your mouth...so good.
foodforfel: Decided to go fancy tonight and made me and the bf some sushi bowls for dinner! Miso salmon, shrimp, imitation crab, avocado, quick-pickled cucumbers and carrots, nori and a soy sauce egg.
foodforfel: Tried out @kitchensurfing's same-day dinners tonight! The menu: Mushroom pappardelle, a kale salad and poached pear and goat cheese crostinis.
foodforfel: This is one massive donut! "The Flying Pig" at Gourdough's - maple frosting topped with strips of fresh bacon.
foodforfel: Gotta go with BQ for my first meal in Austin! Brisket, pulled pork, jalapeño cheese grits and potato salad.
foodforfel: PDC leftovers are so much better when there's actually green on the plate. The last of the roast duck over a bed super greens with a sugar shack inspired maple-balsamic vinaigrette.
foodforfel: Foie gras French toast with cheese and blueberry jam. (Those pink things underneath the cheese? Huge lobes of foie. A meal at PDC isn't complete without excessive amounts of it!)
foodforfel: All the maple syrup pulled from PDC's sugar shack is solely used at the restaurant. You're supposed to drench everything in it too - like these pork and shrimp dumplings (with soy sauce and maple syrup).
foodforfel: If you thought Montreal's Au Pied de Cochon was decadent, you need to experience their limited run Sugar Shack (only open during maple season). To give you an idea of how rich this meal was, this was our first/opening course - a gigantic meat pie topped w
foodforfel: The boyfriend tried cooking duck for the first time tonight...and totally aced it. Crispy duck breast, warm fingerling potato salad with mustard duck fat dressing and tomato salad with mozzarella.
