abaesel: First sunset of the trip. West of Holbrook, AZ
abaesel: We visited the Navajo Nations Tribal Park in Window Rock. AZ yesterday. In a steady rain we walked to pay our respects to the Navajo Code talkers who served during WWII, men who changed the course of the war in the South Pacific.
abaesel: We wandered through the ages yesterday under threatening skies at Arizona's Petrified Forest National Park.
abaesel: At a marker on the location of old Route 66. The Mother road once ran through what is now the Petrified Fores/Painted Desert National Park.
abaesel: The Painted Desert National Park just east of Holbrook AZ. There have steady monsoon rains so the colors were rich and the washes and rivers ran with milk chocolate colored waters.
abaesel: At El Morro (Inscription Rock) National Monument in New Mexico today.
abaesel: Dinner last night was at Jerry's cafe. Great Mexican food. I had a stuffed sopapilla with beef. Beans, and green chili. Yum.
abaesel: Driving I40 eastward to Albuquerque. Sandia Peak looms high above ABQ under a big blue and white sky this morning.
abaesel: Lunch today at the highly recommended Mary & Tito's in Albuquerque. Delicious chicharones with guacamole and the Friday special : huevos rancheros smothered in red chile. Fantastico!

abaesel: Dinner tonight at a lovely restaurant in Santa Fe, NM. The Compound off Canyon Road.
abaesel: We stumbled upon the Santa Fe Farmers Market today at the edge of the Railyard. A true local farmers market. Bought a few tomatoes which were delicious. Wished we had a kitchen to take all the goodness home.

abaesel: We walked across (and back) the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge today just northwest of Taos, NM. Beautiful 72 degree day. Spectacular views.

abaesel: Drove south out of Taos this morning along the Rio Grande River. Look closely and there is a fly fisherman in one photo and kayakers headed downstream in another.

abaesel: Stopped in at the Owl Bar & Cafe established in 1945 in the small farming town of San Antonio, Texas. It's famous for its green chile cheesburger!

abaesel: Bison on Ted Turner's 370,000 Armendaris ranch near Truth or Consequences. We took a 5 hour tour of the ranch today and learned a lot about Turner's inspiring conservation efforts.
