INTPix: Day 1 in Reykjavik, walking by the harbor. See that boring building behind me? It's the Harpa Concert Hall...
INTPix: ...And it's actually pretty impressive once you get closer to it.
INTPix: View from the harbor, that's Mt. Esja on the right. Btw, check out this non-crappy weather. Prior to our arrival, it had been raining for most of the summer.
INTPix: Taking a break for drinks and Nordic design. This is not the best example, but we saw quite a bit of Ikea furniture in Iceland.
INTPix: You have Thomas to thank for most of the detail pics, like this one. The residents of Reykjavik like to put stuff in their windows facing outward for passerbys to enjoy. How thoughtful.
INTPix: Hallgrímskirkja (it's a church) with what I think is a statue of Leif Eriksson. Both are 20th Century creations.
INTPix: Thomas's rendition of the same pairing.
INTPix: "Nighttime" in Reykjavik.
INTPix: Icelandic graffiti. Where the hell did they find fennel? I only saw tomatoes and cucumbers for most of the trip.
INTPix: This is probably near midnight. I don't think the sun ever fully set during our stay. It just ducks behind a building for a few minutes around 3am and then it's back to business.
INTPix: Day 2: The interior of that church during open hours. It's all modern and minimalist inside.
INTPix: The real reason for going to the church. Views!
INTPix: More views! Actually, it's pretty much the same view but in horizontal format. I probably should have edited this album down more.
INTPix: Okay this pseudo stained glass window is kinda lame. It's just regular glass with some photographs glued on top. Meh.
INTPix: You can, however, take cool pictures of the city through said glass.
INTPix: Reykjavik looking decidedly un-churchy.
INTPix: Some Reykjavik bike racks, for those rare individuals who bother to lock things. We saw LOTS of unlocked bikes in Iceland.
INTPix: This is a typical Icelandic bike rack. See how it's only designed to lock to the front wheel? Seriously, the wheel. And people just use those flimsy chain locks. So weird.
INTPix: Junkyard playground by the harbor.
INTPix: Slanty warehouses. It's a bit gloomy now, but still no rain.
INTPix: Thomas prepares breakfast at our Airbnb abode. An entire centrally-located studio apartment for less than the price of a hotel. Thanks, Internet!
INTPix: Day 3: Commencing the road trip portion of our journey. Heading southeast, oops that's actually north... turning around... okay southeast again. Good. And look, sunshine!
INTPix: And an hour later we appear to be driving on the moors. Don't worry, it'll be sunny again in another hour, then cloudy again, etc. Iceland has a variety of rapidly cycling weather. It's a good idea to dress in layers.
INTPix: Very tired dogs outside our country hotel. (It was basically on a farm.)
INTPix: The rooms seemed unremarkable after the poshness of our AirBnB flat, but they had this pet baby fox roaming around. Awww.
INTPix: Large nearby waterfall. The Southern Iceland brochure that I foolishly threw away told us about it, whereas Guidebook doesn't even mention it. Thanks for nothing, Guidebook. We nicknamed it "Ultrafoss" due to its size, so let's just go with that.
INTPix: Waking around near the farm.
INTPix: Icelandic horses. They look a lot like regular horses, but with fluffier hairdos.
INTPix: Post-dinner stroll. I'm guessing 11pm? It looks so peaceful, but about an hour later we were witness to a confusing tragicomedy in which another guest of the hotel was deliberately locked out of his room, presumably by his angry wife or girlfriend.
INTPix: So imagine this as the view from your room, but add to it a man in his underwear walking by to go knock on his lady's window after he got tired of pounding on the door.
