Founded in 1753, Lunenburg was one of the first British attempts to settle Protestants in Nova Scotia. The town was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its streets are lined with historic homes.

The cable ferry leaves West LaHave on the hour and half hour, and departs East LaHave quarter to and quarter after the hour. The brief ride across the river is free of charge.
