Knocked around until we found one that sounded good. Made a little cut...

I stupidly didn't bring enough water. 1.5 liters of water is not enough for me apparently, as I sweat a ridiculous amount. Thankfully we came across this bamboo grove.

And refilled! Phew! A real life saver.

Unfortunatley, with the rought terrain, it was a little hard to keep my camera out. A few of these birds stuck around long enough for me to get a (poor) shot. Long-tailed broadbill (Psarisomus dalhousiae)

On the way back, we stopped at a small waterfall. About an hour further, there's a taller one, but we didn't have enough daylight left to try and see it.

More fumarole vents up there make the ground pretty unstable and prone to landslides.

At the end of the canyon is Mt. Kunyit, the active volcano. The main campsite is near the landslide at the top of the picture.

A fair amount of sulpher around. While we were there, some highschools collected some to bring back to their village. Used for medicinal purposes.

The hotspring area is surrounded on three sides by some steep cliffs.
Wild Sumatra https://www.wildsumatra.com:
There were lots of sulpher vents and hot springs bubbling up all over. Some of them produced different colors, from orange to yellow to black.

Years ago, this was a fairly popular place for people from the village to hangout. There was a big warm pool where the river water and hot spring water mixed, and a nice waterfall. A huge landslide wiped all that away, although there are still some smalle

Crazy looking ant. Don't think I'd want a bite from it.
Wild Sumatra https://www.wildsumatra.com:
After about 4 hours or so, we reached the hot springs.
Wild Sumatra https://www.wildsumatra.com:
Fruit flies (?) seemed to love these mushrooms.
Wild Sumatra https://www.wildsumatra.com:
A beautiful jumping spider (Thiana sp., probably bhamoensis). Tragically, my last macro shot, as somehow my Raynox macro snap on lens got lost in the jungle after this. Much weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Wild Sumatra https://www.wildsumatra.com:
I was struck by the irridescent design on its cephalothorax.
Wild Sumatra https://www.wildsumatra.com:
It was missing two legs.
Wild Sumatra https://www.wildsumatra.com:
Wish I could find an ID for this cool bug!

Unsure of the path, we mostly just followed the river up. It was beautiful, and I love walking through the streams, but scrambling over slippery rocks and climbing over fallen trees does not make for the easiest hike!

Some kind of Spiny Orb-weaver.

Yesterday, Dave, Mhd Zacky, some other Pencagura members, and I went to visit the Talang Kemuning hot springs. It was a bit of an adventure as it had been a number of years since any of them had gone there.
