TML_Bahrain: Lone Canada Goose - this one had obviously become separated from the rest of the flock in the sandstorm and approached our group, honking, obviously hoping from a distance that we were the other geese!
TML_Bahrain: Canada Geese leaning into the wind as they bustle quickly away over the dunes!
TML_Bahrain: C & I at the Lighthouse
TML_Bahrain: Walking out in the tearing wind and blowing sand - apparently it was agony on bare legs.
TML_Bahrain: Gannet on the wing
TML_Bahrain: Standing on the shell bank observing the colony; this is the closest we could stand but the Gannets were curious and kept flying out to inspect us!
TML_Bahrain: Panorama of Farewell Spit
TML_Bahrain: Flying gannet - this should probably have been the blip had I been able to upload shots from my Canon!
TML_Bahrain: 4 Flying gannets
TML_Bahrain: Gannets over colony
TML_Bahrain: Chicks - a terrible close crop, but you can see several chicks in this; one in profile (black beak) and several more to the left of it on the bank. I need a better zoom lens!
TML_Bahrain: Wheeling gannet
TML_Bahrain: From a distance
TML_Bahrain: Tree sculpture - the washed up tree trunk has become a landmark on the Spit
TML_Bahrain: Variable Oystercatcher - I'm willing to bet that this is the same one that harassed Christina last year for inadvertently coming too close to her chicks. Oystercatchers are fiercely territorial and this one was in exactly the same spot, warning us off!
TML_Bahrain: The Dangerous Kitchen in Takaka - a great place for dinner on our way through to Wainui in the evening!
