Only picture I took at Excelsior Trail. A side hike by foot on the first day in that area.
theslowlane:
Must have been horses. On my way up the highway, next morning, I saw some horses at Excelsior Trailhead.
theslowlane:
Some cedar trees along Mount Baker Highway.
theslowlane:
Cedar.
theslowlane:
Mount Shuksan. Bicycling up the road takes most of the day, but it's an excuse to spend more time in the scenery.
theslowlane:
Looks almost like a supermarket parking lot.
theslowlane:
Passing Mount Baker Ski Area at Heather Meadows on the way up.
theslowlane:
Cell coverage at the ski area, but not in the town of Glacier, WA.
theslowlane:
My free sunglasses. A story behind this.
theslowlane:
A stop at Bagley Lakes Lodge.
theslowlane:
Bagley Lakes Lodge. Very well built in the 1930s. I wish I had taken a picture of the floor. Great woodwork.
theslowlane:
Little store at Bagley Lakes Lodge. I was able to buy some more water in plastic bottles. A bit of packaged food and souvenirs can be purchased.

Last part of the beautiful ride to Artist Point.

theslowlane:
A bit of walking on the trails near the parking lot.
theslowlane:
Some time to hike around a bit. Started the descent around 4:30 pm and got back to Glacier, WA. around 6:30 PM.
theslowlane:
Little bits of snow near parking lot. August 30, 2022. Mount Baker in background. My phone camera pointed toward the blazing sun.
theslowlane:
My selfie at Artist Point.
theslowlane:
Information about that fire.
theslowlane:
The bike I ride. Extra water, food and supplies in the panniers.
theslowlane:
Ominous columns of smoke. Forest fires burning in the Hannigan Pass part of North Cascades Park as seen from Artist Point.
theslowlane:
Back down past Heather Meadows on my way down from Artist Point. Smoke from the fire still visible over the ridgeline.
theslowlane:
Just about everything at the ski area is closed.
theslowlane:
Bicycling back down from the mountain. I didn't go fast, but enjoyed a break from pedaling. A long descent.
theslowlane:
I tried the peanut butter chocolate pie at Chair 9. Very good and quite rich. Plenty of sugar, but as a bicyclist, I burn lots of calories. Guilt free pleasures.
