Clothespin Lady: The Waipara Valley is situated only 40 minutes drive north of Christchurch city, the capital of the South Island. It's the fastest growing wine region in New Zealand with around 80 vineyards
Clothespin Lady: Mud House Winery. We tasted various wines, and bought one bottle of Waipara Hills Equinox Pinot Gris. Being the driver, I had to use the spittoon. A first for me!

Clothespin Lady: $2.13 wasn't bad. We stopped here on the way to Arthur's Pass, didn't want to run out of gas there!

Clothespin Lady: On the road to Arthur's pass, it looked like the mountains were melting. This may be Torlesse Range, one of the best known of the foothill ranges, clearly visible from Christchurch and lying immediately ahead of travellers on the main road west.
