The Domett Railway Station building is now a tourist attraction. In 1907 Domett was the end of the line north of Christchurch.

The Waipara Valley is situated only 40 minutes drive north of Christchurch city, the capital of the South Island. It's the fastest growing wine region in New Zealand with around 80 vineyards

Mud House Winery. We tasted various wines, and bought one bottle of Waipara Hills Equinox Pinot Gris. Being the driver, I had to use the spittoon. A first for me!

There were a lot of vineyards...... we stopped here as it was right on the highway

$2.13 wasn't bad. We stopped here on the way to Arthur's Pass, didn't want to run out of gas there!

On the road to Arthur's pass, it looked like the mountains were melting. This may be Torlesse Range, one of the best known of the foothill ranges, clearly visible from Christchurch and lying immediately ahead of travellers on the main road west.

Castle Hill, spectacular limestone outcrops, lies between the Torlesse and Craigieburn ranges, crossed by State Highway 73. Popular among rock climbers, and known for its rare native plant life. Castle Hill Peak rises 921 m above the surrounding rocks
