The exterior facade of the Casa Batllo. It is covered in broken ceramic tiles called "trencadís". It was made to represent the skin of a dragon.
Bruce Stribling:
An exterior shot of Gaudi's La Perdrera. The La Pedrera was constructed between 1905 and 1912.
Bruce Stribling:
A modern part of Barcelona, near the waterfront.
Bruce Stribling:
The palace on top of Montjuic (or Mountain of the Jews). The Palau Nacionale (in Catalan) was built for the 1929 World's Fair.
Bruce Stribling:
Another HDR of the Palau Nacionale. It now houses the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya.
Bruce Stribling:
This giant sculpture is located in the port of Barcelona. I shot this from the top of a double decker bus as we drove under it. It is meant to represent the waves and movement of the ocean.
Bruce Stribling:
Another modern building on the Barcelona waterfront. This town will give you an automatic appreciation for architecture.
Bruce Stribling:
A non-denominational church built for the 1992 Summer Olympics. Again shot from the "Bus Touristic". The "Bus Touristic" was a great way to see a lot of Barcelona in a small amount of time.

The Plaça de Catalunya, the square in the center of Barcelona.
Bruce Stribling:
Another shot of the Plaça de Catalunya.
Bruce Stribling:
The Plaça de Catalunya occupies approximately 50,000 square meters and is the hub of the most important streets of Barcelona.

An evening view of Antoni Gaudi's Casa Batllo from our hotel in Barcelona, "The Hotel Majestic". We reserved the room through Celebrity Cruises and got upgraded to a VERY nice suite.

Roof top shot of our hotel. The Hotel Majestic - Barcelona. This was an excellent place to stay, located between the Casa Batllo and La Pedrera. Downtown Barcelona at it's best. Debbie did a great job picking this place.
Bruce Stribling:
An interior view of the roof of the La Pedrera. Gaudi loved the look of natural forms, such as the catenary curves shown here. Each arch is a slight different catenary curve formed from a single layer of brick on edge. The catenary curve can be viewed e
Bruce Stribling:
A roof top view of the La Pedrera. Each form on the roof represents a distinct mechanical function for the building. These happen to be smoke stacks.
Bruce Stribling:
Another shot of the roof of the La Pedrera.
Bruce Stribling:
The interior courtyard of Antoni Gaudi's La Pedrera (in Catalan - "The Quarry".
Bruce Stribling:
Looking up through the Atrium of La Pedrera.
Bruce Stribling:
The ceiling of the Atrium of La Pedrera is covered in broken tile mosaic called "trencadís". By breaking the tiles even the most organic of Gaudi's design could be covered.
Bruce Stribling:
Another downtown Barcelona residence. We discovered it while walking through various neighborhoods on our way from the Hotel Majestic to the Segrada Familia.
Bruce Stribling:
The front facade of the Basilica Segrada Familia. The construction passed the 50% complete point in 2010 and is anticipated to be complete in 2026. Gaudi is quoted as saying "my client is not in a hurry".
Bruce Stribling:
Architectural details of the Segrada Familia. The colors in the natural Catalan stone are beautiful. One can tell the more recent construction from the more weathered stone in background from Gaudi's time.
Bruce Stribling:
The rear facade of Gaudi's Cathedral "Sagrada Familia". The cathedral has been under continuous construction since 1882 and is still not completed.
Bruce Stribling:
A street performer on the Las Ramblas, Barcelona's famous shopping avenue. This guy was a star attraction. It took me a 15 minutes to work through the crowd to get a clear view. Can you figure out how he levitates?
