Sherrita:
Summit Lake on highway to Seward. It still had ice on it which melted during our two week stay.
Sherrita:
A glacial fed lake on the road to Seward from Girdwood. The copper carbonate in the glacial silt makes the water a pretty light green.
Sherrita:
On the waterfront in Seward. I didn't realize it was the start of the Iditarod. A fishing boat heading out.
Sherrita:
Took a drive to Whittier. There is a 2.5 mile long tunnel ($12 fee) which goes from Seward Highway to Whittier and is one way! The tunnel is rather small and the insides are all rock. There is a train track also.
Sherrita:
Moose along the road. We were heading to the Mercantile, which is the local store owned by Safeway. It is the smallest Safeway in the country but does the highest gross sales per square foot in the Safeway chain.
Sherrita:
Such tall trees with a bumper crop of cones. There were many birds in these tall trees, but so hard to find them!
Sherrita:
Two eagles on a dolphin. That's what the boat's captain asked us if we had ever seen before. The structure they are on is called a dolphin. Real sense of humor!
