One of a few Shooting Stars preserved at Yesilkoy in Turkey is 8-543. As can be seen, it's a photo bird, an ex USAF RT-33A, 54-1543.

This F-100C, coded 3-089 is ex USAF as 54-2089. It's preserved at Yesilkoy in Turkey. We used to go there to use their Avro RJ-100 sim.

This Lockheed built Starfighter is TF-104G 5725, ex Kriegsmarine 27+24. It's Turk' serial, 63-5725 is on the fin & 9-725 is its Turkish AF code. In the Museum in Istanbul. It's MAP serial is 61-3054.

This Lockheed F-104G is in the Turkish AM at Yesilkoy, Istanbul. This machine was built in Canada, 62-12344 but 22344 with the Turkish. Preserved at Yesilkoy.

Great looking F-100C Super Sabre on show outside the Turkish AF Academy in Istanbul. 54-2059 hasn't been reported since 2011 but hopefully it's still there. You have to be careful shooting pics in Turkey- Get it wrong and it's 'Midnight Express' for you!

A Turkish AF Northrop F-5A Freedom Fighter, tries to hide behind a bush at the Turkish AF Museum at Yesilkoy. 66-14460 is ex Taiwan AF & flew as 1242 with them.

Fantastic looking TF-104G 9-725 is 63-5725, also ex Kriegsmarine 27+24 and MAP 61-3054. Great to see, but hard to shoot without cutting a bit off- in this case, the pitot. It's preserved at Yesilkoy, Istanbul.

54-2089/ 3-089 is an F-100C Super Sabre, preserved at Yesilkoy, near Istanbul. I was there to use Turkishs' RJ-100 sim to convert onto the type.

This ex Turkish AF Beech Mentor was parked behind the museum buildings at Yesilkoy, Istanbul. TC-CCH flew for the Turks as 24216/ 2-216.

This Republic RF-84F Thunderflash is preserved at Yesilkoy, near Istanbul. 11917 is ex USAF 51-1917. Like me, it's a snapper!

The Republic F-84F differs from the G-model by having swept wings. This Thunderstreak is 52-8941, seen preserved at Yesilkoy, Istanbul. It flew for the French before coming to Turkey.

The Cessna U-17 is one of those unglamourous types that has actually seen a lot of service. This Turkish Army a/c is 11357, a U-17A preserved at Yesilkoy, near Istanbul. c/n 0846 is ex USAF 64-17933. It's a militarised Cessna 185 Skywagon.

A lot of Cold War iron ended up in Turkey. This early Thunderstreak is 51-9953, a straight winged F-84G preserved in the THK museum near the old Istanbul IAP. Whats the word for square roundels? Squondrels?

The THK Museum at Yesilkoy is worth a visit if you find yourself in Istanbul. This Aeritalia-built Starfighter is 6868, an F-104S. No sign of a code in the pic, but 9-868 is correct- only Italy & Turkey used this version of the Zipper.

The Germans seem to have maintained a close friendship with Turkey since their disastrous pre WW1 secret alliance. Turkish Army 10022/ KK is ex 58+31 with the Germans. It's a Dornier Do-28D2 Skyservant, preserved at Yesilkoy.

The RF-5A is the recce' version of Northrops' Freedom Fighter. This one is 69-7147/ 5-147, preserved in the Turkish AF Museum in Yesilkoy, Istanbul.

A mighty MIM-14 Nike Hercules SAM in the Turkish AF Museum. These retired with no kills, and usually packed a W-31 thermo-nuclear warhead with 2, 20 or 40KT yield. This missile was widely deployed and some 25,000 (!) were built.

Great looking F-100F 56-3788/ 8-788 in the Turkish AF Museum at Yesilkoy. The paintwork is shabby, but no hiding the two seat Super Sabres' good looks. The missiles are Martin-Marietta AGM-12 Bullpups.

The Turks had two C-54s, and this one is ETI-683 preserved at Yesilkoy. If flew for the USAAC as 42-72683 before going to Turkey c.1959.
