Alfred Fartknocker: F-111s' as far as the eye can see, back in 2002. 70-2399 nearest, 74-0182 & 70-2378 are ex 48 TFW F-models, once based at Lakenheath. A couple of EF-111A also present. Mostly scrapped c. 2010 sadly.
Alfred Fartknocker: Bu.Aer 148917, an ex USS Intrepid E-1 Tracer.
Alfred Fartknocker: Most of the F-111 fleet was gathered in AMARC, waiting for the shredder, in 2002. This one is F-111D 68-0171 "CC" from Cannon AFB, NM. Stored as FV081, it lasted until April 2008.
Alfred Fartknocker: A look over the middle of Western International, Tucson, AZ. Three C-7 Caribou, a C-54, two Albatross and a few Army U-8s can be seen. It was quiet on a Sunday. The photo doesn't show the searing July heat- but it was there.
Alfred Fartknocker: Stored with ARM/ DMI in Tucson, AZ is this Fairchild Provider. N123KJ flew with the USAF as 54-659, a C-123K. Is it still here, I wonder?
Alfred Fartknocker: The great majority of the Mojave helos were with Allied Aircraft in Tucson, but this solitary TH-37B was with National Aircraft. Bu.Aer 145873 clearly served with the US Marines in HMH-461. It was scrapped I expect when the yard shut, the others too.
Alfred Fartknocker: This is the NBC training area at the Boneyard. There were three F-4D Phantoms here, 66-8715 "FM", 66-7692 "FM" & 66-7718 "DO" which missed this pic. All three shredded in 2012.
Alfred Fartknocker: Lockheed EC-121D Warning Star 53-535 abandoned in Allied Aircrafts' yard in 2001. It showed up at Pima AM later, after this yard was cleared. This Constellation was built as an RC-121D.
Alfred Fartknocker: The two BIG CROW aircraft were retired to AMARC by 2010. Here's 55-3132, an NKC-135E & 63-8050, an NKC-135B amongst some less special jets.
Alfred Fartknocker: This C-27A Spartan, 91-0105 "HW" is on Celebrity Row in 2002. It left here and was scrapped with Western International, AZ. Last noted there in 2016. The C-27 looked promising for a while but seems to have fallen from favour with the USAF.
Alfred Fartknocker: I think this Mohawk is 60-3760, "Peters Pig Pen".
Alfred Fartknocker: A pair of elegant USMC Harrier TAV-8A Harrier trainers stand in front of a field of RIT aircraft at AMARC. 7A040 is Bu.Aer 159382 since saved by the Pima AM. 7A039 is 159383, likely still here.
Alfred Fartknocker: A general look around in the yard of Consolidated Aircraft/ UAC, Tucson, AZ in 2002. The fin and the four fuselages are Vought Crusader.
Alfred Fartknocker: Mohawks in ARM/DMI in 2002. They call this weather 'the monsoon' in Arizona. Clearly, they've never been to India.....
Alfred Fartknocker: The yard of 'Allied Aircraft' is history now, but in 2001 there were dozens of helos here including many old Army CH-37B & USMC CH-37C Mojaves. These were all scrapped many years ago when HVF West took over the yard.
Alfred Fartknocker: The US Border Force have started to store choppers in AMARC. Here are four OH-6 Cayuse, a couple of Hueys and a Hughes 600.
Alfred Fartknocker: There were dozens of F-111s at D-M in 2002, but not many were saved. 68-0152 "CC" is a D-model, l/n here in 2008. 67-0124 "WA" is an F-111E from the 431TS, 57 FWW at Nellis AFB, NV- also scrapped in '08.
Alfred Fartknocker: I love to see a Caribou and Western Internationals yard in Tucson has quite a few. CM011 is 62-4182 "YK". a C-7B.
Alfred Fartknocker: Chandler Memorial RAP in Phoenix has been abandoned today, but this old Lockheed PV-2 Harpoon is still there. N7086C/ Fire 112 is ex Bu.Aer 37444.
Alfred Fartknocker: A very early Lockheed C-130A lies on its belly in ARM/ DMI, Tucson, AZ. 56-485 was never heard of again. It had been stored as CF090.
Alfred Fartknocker: Not really sure which Grumman Tracker this one is, although I expect I identified it from the other end. There were dozens of these stored in Consolidated Aeronautics yard in Tucson, AZ.
Alfred Fartknocker: Ex Tennessee ANG C-130A CF087 in ARM/ DMI. At the time the Hercules was active as a firebomber and parts were needed. 56-471 was retired to AMARC in 1990, but the end is near in this pic and it was l/n in October 2010.
Alfred Fartknocker: One of a few anonomised Coast Guard HH-52 Sea Guard helos at Sunsites, AZ. This one was #5, so maybe it has been identified since it left here, as all ten have since moved on. This one is almost certainly 1390- N8224Q.
Alfred Fartknocker: One of Eleven (!) EC-130 TACAMO Hercules in ARM/ DMI, Tucson, AZ a few years ago. I'm really not sure which one this is, as it had been carefully anonomised!
Alfred Fartknocker: This EF-111A is wearing FV308, so it has to be 66-0039 but I haven't checked to see if it was one of the "UH" based jets. Anyway, it was done and scrapped by 2013. What a shame.
Alfred Fartknocker: This chopper has faded so much that the serial has vanished, just leaving its shadow- so one of the easiest to identify. UH-19F, Bu.Aer 138585 was stored at Chandler Municipal, in 2001 with c.55 others! They were moved to nearby Casa Grande in 2007, there
Alfred Fartknocker: The vertical tails were always absent on Mohawks in the Tucson scrapyards. This one is clearly YA035, an OV-1C, 66-18887. Here it is in ARM/ DMI, but it was never noted after this. I gave the Boss a slab of Beer in exchange for a nosey around.
Alfred Fartknocker: Here's F-15C 78-0488 "173FW" of the Oregon ANG at D-M AFB.
Alfred Fartknocker: Boeing-Vertol CH-46 Sea Knights stretch into the distance at AMARC. It's fair to say that the US Marines got their moneys worth out of these- long overdue for retirement. Most will be E models.
Alfred Fartknocker: Another restorable looking Albatross in Westerns' yard in Tucson, is this ex USAF HU-16B, 51-043, here serialled O-10043.
