This T-38 is preserved in Colorado Springs, at the Air Force Academy. 59-1602 has no serial on it, just these spurious 'Thunderbirds' markings. l/n here in 2015, but probably still there? Still visible on GE anyway.

Most UK spotters were probably sick of seeing XV187. It was eventually part exchanged for a new J-model and broken up at Georgetown, SC in 2005. This C-130K remained a C.1 for all its service with the RAF.

A line of eight Cessna O-1 Bird Dogs in JW Duffs yard. It seems five were saved when the yard was cleared, and can now be found at Greely-Weld RAP.

The Arizona ANG had a decent collection of ex AZ ANG jets preserved at Tucson IAP. This Sabre is 51-13278, a QF-86F. I wonder if it actually flew for the Guard here? It certainly flew for South Korea at some point, as well as the US Navy.

A rather mighty looking Convair F-106 in the resto' area at Warner-Robbins base museum, GA. 59-0123 is a F-106A Delta Dart- the 'Ultimate Interceptor'.

N13743 is older than it looks. Fire 81 is ex 49-0132 a C-119C that flew for the famous Hemet-Ryan Fire service, putting out forest fires. It's in storage here at Pima AM, AZ. Note the extra jet scabbed onto the roof in an effort to give it more whoosh!

This old C-47A, seen at Marathon RAP, on the Florida Keys is marked N763A. It turned out to be ex USN R4D-3 Bu.Aer 05078. A plaque inside revealed its service as a USAAF C-53 41-20124 before it joined the Navy.

This Huey turned up at Waimea on Kaua'i- one of the four (big) islands that make up Hawai'i. It has clearly been repurposed as a bar, and was previously with Ozark Helicopters in Alabama. It's 65-9795, a UH-1H.

This ex Royal Navy Canberra is one of a pair at Falcon Field, Phoenix, AZ. N76764 is ex WK142/ 848, a TT.18. It has since moved to the Pima AM, so assured of a future.

Lockheed PV-2 Harpoon left up on bricks at Chandler Memorial RAP- since closed to traffic, AZ. N7251C is ex US Navy Bu.Aer 37550.

The road from Tucson to San Diego passes through a place called Quartzsite. This HUP-2 (or UH-25 if you prefer) Retriever is derelict there. It's unmarked but is Bu.Aer 130053 and also registered as N88944. These were used as 'plane guard' during Carrier

Seen at Mojave, CA is this ex Danish AF SAAB Draken. AR-119 is an RF-35. A photo jet.

The Navion's a civvy, but U-8 & U-21 are ex Army, the O-2 flew for the USAF and the SNJ for the Navy. This yard is gone today, but some of the more useful a/c were saved. It's the yard of JW Duff at the old Stapleton Airport, Denver, CO.

This Bronco, currently serving the California Department of Forests, as a spotter is N415DF. This is at Hollister, CA- same place as people have on their T-shirts.

A puff of smoke appears as the pilot starts the RR Merlin in this Mustang at Kissimmee, FL. 'Crazy Horse' is 44-84745, a North American P-51D.

This ex USAF JetStar has the good looks of many Skunk Works aircraft- since defiled by some 'arty' project. This one is in Pima AMs resto area, C-140B 62-4197 came here from Allied Aircraft.

This chopper is N126GW- it's a Sikorsky S-58T and flew in France for the Armee de L'Air as SKY 1124. This one is US built, but these were also built in France. That black writing said 'CARSON' but it's with Hi Lift Helos here, Kissimmee, FL.

Pima AM in Tucson had a couple of Voodoos when I visited in 2002. This one is RF-101C 56-214. Amazing looking jet, and much loved by its pilots and engineers. Also known as the 'One-Oh-Wonder'.

The folk at March AFRB, CA couldn't resist painting this Gnat as a 'Red Arrow', even though this jet has a more interesting history with the Indian AF. This HAL Ajeet is E1076, a license built Indian version of the Gnat F.1.

This Lockheed PV-2 Harpoon is a real life WWII warbird. These were used in the Aleutian campaign flying in the hostile Northern Pacific. N7268C is ex Bu.Aer 37129. It's at Falcon Field, AZ here.

ex RCAF Beech D.18S Expeditor N62936 at Hemet-Ryan, CA. It was RCAF 1463, then CF-BCE before coming to the USA, now named 'Sweet Dreams'.

This Piasecki (Vertol) CH-21C is 53-4326, preserved at March AFRB, CA. These choppers were amongst the first to arrive in Viet Nam, officially named 'Shawnee' or 'Workhorse'. The Vietnamese called it 'Worm' but to everyone else, it's a Flying Banana.

Another smartly presented early jet on display in Colorado is this NA Sabre. 53-782 is a late model F-86L, often known as a Sabre Dog. Note the lowered tray for air-to-air rockets under the cockpit.

This EC-121 Warning Star lay in the Pima AMs' resto area when I visited. 53-535. It's a refugee from one of the cleared yards, Allied Aircraft, in this case.

This MiG-15 UTI 'MIDGET' is the two seat version of the 'FAGOT', seen here at Mojave, CA. This 'MIDGET' is actually a license built SBLim-2. C/n 1A01005 was 005 in service with Poland and started life as a Lim-1 single seater. It was l/n here in Oct 2012
