Painted crate with sand and uncovered note.
samuelshoemaker72:
I added my third and fourth coat with an inexpensive latex eggshell white paint.
samuelshoemaker72:
The bigger embossings were almost a 1/16 of an inch deep into the wood.
samuelshoemaker72:
I took the crate to the super shop and sanded down the burnt embossing.
samuelshoemaker72:
I thought white primer spray paint would add a nice matte second coat, but I still didn't like the burnt embossing stamps on the sides. Security was also angry about me spray painting on campus
samuelshoemaker72:
I tried painting the crate with my white acrylic paint, but I didn't have enough to do a second coat and I thought it looked unprofessional.
samuelshoemaker72:
A local wine distribution warehouse gave me an old wine crate for my project

Final prints.
samuelshoemaker72:
Cropping the borders using the tear bar as a straight edge.
samuelshoemaker72:
There were only a few marks I wanted to scratch off of this print, but I used the felt tip pen to clean up some lines on the "highway" in the bottom right hand corner.
samuelshoemaker72:
Registering my screen with my aligned transparency. I am only doing one pull for this screen without any test prints, because my screen has a tendency to bleed quickly and I only have one edition to print.
samuelshoemaker72:
Blowing out my second screen.
samuelshoemaker72:
I used an artist's eraser to clean up smudges and used an exacto knife to scratch off smaller ink marks.
samuelshoemaker72:
My text has a little bit of a ghost image near the left side of the print because I pulled my screen twice. Cleaning up a bald spot near the left edge with a paint brush. I applied too much paint on, but I was able to clean it up later with my exacto knif
samuelshoemaker72:
I tried registering my print this way. I didn't have proper tabs and it was nearly impossible to register this way anyways, so I moved it and printed horizontally.
samuelshoemaker72:
I aligned my transparency on my screen for registration. I weighed the paper down for a few hours to get rid of the bend in the paper.
samuelshoemaker72:
I cut each individual print out before screen printing, using an exacto knife. I left the borders on to deal with later.
samuelshoemaker72:
I printed my two designs without the text screen shots from yourtextworld so I could screen print them. I printed the sandbag design with/without the text for comparison and so I could have a back up plan.
samuelshoemaker72:
I started by printing my photographs with the large format printer.
