seattlerachel: Tough towncar customer.
seattlerachel: Taking in the view of the mountain. Getting ready to board a giant metal tube that will hurtle through the atmosphere for 9.5 hours. Next stop, Hamsterdam.
seattlerachel: My husband, the genius, packed a deck of old cards. Surprise hit before "bedtime."
seattlerachel: There's always 1 person on every red-eye who keeps their window shade open. What is that about? Don't be that guy. Especially this close to the solstice when we're so near the Arctic Circle. I don't believe the sun ever set. Anyhow, between that and the s
seattlerachel: Hello, Zürich. I thought you were supposed to be rainy. I'll take this.
seattlerachel: I did!!! Husband and child are still fast asleep, though. I got my full 8 hours in, too. Taking advantage of my free time by wandering way too much. (4.5 miles.) I walked all of Bahnhofstrasse for window-shopping, and the length of the Limmat from the Zür
seattlerachel: This is for @suomynona: look what I found!
seattlerachel: Ok, so I get why this city wins all the quality of life awards. Less obsessively well-groomed than Basel or Bern or Geneva, but still not in the same gritty hemisphere as most global cities.
seattlerachel: Baby's first currywurst. She preferred to eat french fries with her fork, instead.
seattlerachel: Tram time! Bonus: fun with a scavenged newspaper.
seattlerachel: We found a playground hammock, worked out great for selfie training.
seattlerachel: I didn't think to tote a swimsuit for today's excursion. Let her run around the splashpad anyway. YOLO
seattlerachel: Shall we hold a dog show?
seattlerachel: Shall we hold a dog show?
seattlerachel: I'd read this town had the best public transit system in the world. After riding during a civilized rush hour, it was like some kind of dream come true. Also, I finally figured out how to catch the right tram that stops out front of our place.
seattlerachel: I spent way too much time looking for the lowest-sugar cereal in the massive Coop grocery yesterday at ZH Hauptbahnhoff. Out of all the Germanic and British-expat-section products, this multi-grain Cheerios was the best. #goteamamerica.
seattlerachel: Just found the most posh elephant zoo-habitat I've ever seen. Thai themed; even the kiosks have curries.
seattlerachel: Mama & baby rhino! Basically made my day.
seattlerachel: I turned around and she had all these plush magnets in her lap. I let her keep a penguin.
seattlerachel: Show-off.
seattlerachel: We finally woke her up at 1PM. I think she's slept 15 hours in the last 24. She's in a deliriously delightful mood, which I hope is a good omen.
seattlerachel: She was all pumped up to get this "ball (statue) rolling.
seattlerachel: Who cares about elephants 15 yards away when you can commune with this guy?
seattlerachel: Excellent commitment to chocolate, here.
seattlerachel: Guess who! Today was the free museum day at Zürich's big art museum. I took the chance because I had no idea how long E would tolerate it.
seattlerachel: Mozy's favorite work. Made up of 6-sided dice. She actually looked at this for a bit so I could take in the rest of the room. Rodin sculptures were another hit.
seattlerachel: Today I figured out which is the Fraumünster and which is the Grossmünster. This is Frau, taken from the Gross. Frau's stained glass windows designed by Chagall, and it is so cool to see his obvious style in glass form.
seattlerachel: If I get any solo time, I'm coming back to check out the home goods design store here.
seattlerachel: We visited a west-side neighborhood of Zürich for dinner. One of @tibadoh's San Francisco colleagues recommended Palestinian Grill for falafel & sabich & hummus. (He sent a number of recs we'll explore. I think.)
seattlerachel: She stole her dad's falafel and was NOT into sharing.
