ODI Global: Before I had my smart uniform I used to wear this dress to school. There was no money to buy a school uniform for me
ODI Global: Without the goats we wouldn't have milk and we would have to buy it which is expensive for us. We use milk to make morning tea
ODI Global: This is my sister Nzisa. She is fifteen years old. We get on well and never argue. She always helps me to do the right thing in life
ODI Global: When I wear this skirt I feel comfortable and decently dressed. If you don't dress decently people will think you go around with older men for money. Some girls do this because they are poor and have no other choice
ODI Global: I was given these shoes as a present. I was very happy. I wore them when my feet were dirty
ODI Global: It is now possible to be able to buy clothes especially my school uniform and my Sunday best
ODI Global: These hens can give me some eggs to enjoy. The eggs can give me energy
ODI Global: Having family around you is very important because it gives you a feeling of belonging. I always have people to share stories with and play with. My favourite stories are Wano tales about how people lived in the past
ODI Global: My brother Mutunga is milking the goat, he does the milking every morning. We bought the goat with the money from the cash transfer programme. We used to have strong tea in the morning but now we can have milk in our tea.
ODI Global: My Grandmother is holding the documents from the bank which show that we are saving some of the money for my future
ODI Global: She [My wife] makes the drink in a hut by our house
ODI Global: This is a lady who also sleeps on the veranda. I spend a lot of time with her

ODI Global: I spend the money on food but it is a big family and with so many people it does not go far – it is only enough for a little flour, and I could never stop working
ODI Global: In 2005 someone who works at the hospital found a wheelchair in the rubbish and saved it for me. That is what I use now, as although it was bad enough for the hospital to throw away it is much better than my old one
ODI Global: I saved up to get a tap installed for the house, which I didn’t have before
ODI Global: Each day I go along the road to the school where I teach evening class. The school is far away, but I can get there without problem on the road, unless it rains
ODI Global: This is my other daughter Saqina. She often helps me around the house
ODI Global: Each month I travel alone to the place where they give the payments. It is not too far and I can go along the road in my wheelchair
