Nephentes Phinena ☮:
Recently, when we went for a walk, we discovered an ornithological sensation!
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
You have to be very quiet, then you can spot them sometimes. Here my first recording which has been successful - may I introduce: the rare wool vulture (Puschelus nephentiasis)
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
They prefer to live in small colonies. Therefore you have to look really carefully - if you see one, there are probably more nearby.
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
Here's a spy. He makes sure that none of his woolly colleagues will come in danger. Since they are dog toys from the origin, they must be vigilant. So they prefer places where dogs are not allowed, such as swimming pools, hot dog stands or cemeteries
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
They are very shy, but also very curious. This inner conflict leads to large, globular eyes, with which they marvel at the world. They are truly droll little creatures ...
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
This one seems a bit too afraid of heights. Perhaps another wool vulture should rather take up the position of the scout...
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
Here they are quite at ease, I was able to approach to the animals by crawling on my belly up to a few centimeters.
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
We circle the group cautious, hoping to find a nest or even chicks. Unfortunately, now is probably not breeding season, at least we could not find some youngsters.
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
Now they have seen us and watch us turn. One of the wool vultures tries to hide behind a pile of stones, but because he can not stop watching us, this try is not very effective.
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
After a while the animals regain confidence. They are no longer shy. They communicate with squeaking noises and appear to be a cheerful little company.
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
Aren't they adorable little birds?
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
They seem to have discovered something that demands their full attention. We are forgotten and can move freely in their vicinity. What would it be that's distracting them so much..?
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
Aha! Another wool vulture Group! These animals are almost tame and not very shy. Perhaps one reason for their rarity - caution is sometimes simply healthier for small birds.
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
Here two couples seem to have formed - that single animal on the right looks just a little unfortunate.
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
The couple left above seems to have discovered the other wool vulture group, attentive they screen the fellows.
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
Again, I must say that these birds are exceptionally friendly.
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
Here approaches a delegation of the first group of wool vultures to the second group. The animals take first contact
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
The wool vultures show keen interest in their environment - they investigate just about anything that comes in range of their beaks. This bird has discovered an ornament on a staircase which he apparently really likes.
Nephentes Phinena ☮:
When we wanted to leave the place, we found that we had been too long in the vicinity of woolen vultures. They had already adopted us and therefore followed us up home. (....)
