My Good Eye:
Robert does me the HUGE favor of picking up my boats and taking them to his house the day before we leave for Covington

our convoy of two trucks loaded with four kayaks and one canoe
My Good Eye:
at a rest stop along I-81 in the Shenandoah Valley: l-r it's Neil Laggan, Bill Carrigan and Robert Braun. The four of us will join my brother Henry at Covington.
My Good Eye:
we arrive at Joyner's Budget Motel in Covington and join Henry who is waiting and has already made friends with the daughter of the owner
My Good Eye:
our first foray to find the put-in for our next-morning launch takes us up Warm Springs Mountain with an excellent view of the great Allegheny Highlands

originally the falls had tumbled 200 feet - but a lime company relocated the flow and it now only falls 80 feet

My Good Eye:
this is the Indian Draft put-in on a sunny afternoon - the guy in the picture is a stranger - it would be gray and rainy next morning when we launched
My Good Eye:
after finding the put-in and take-out we were hungry and found a good Mexican restaurant
My Good Eye:
after the meal Henry drove us to the heart of historic Covington which we found blocked to traffic and eerily empty
My Good Eye:
a beautiful downtown that was so quiet and empty it seems like a movie set
My Good Eye:
we learned from a policeman that the street was blocked so the high school seniors could parade their prom fashions before the dance their parents had organized
My Good Eye:
another shot taken by Henry - this in front of the jail which is beside the courthouse
My Good Eye:
the United Daughters of the Confederacy strike again
My Good Eye:
the Allegheny County Courthouse
My Good Eye:
is it copper or paint? we couldn't decide
My Good Eye:
"colored" dead are listed separately and last
My Good Eye:
a pretty little church opposite the Courthouse in the cordoned-off blocks of downtown
My Good Eye:
door of that church - some pretty spectacular iron work on the hinges
My Good Eye:
another building along those two blocks

soon the prom-bound high school seniors began arriving in their finery accompanied by parents and dates
