My Good Eye:
Two miles downstream from Brunswick Md. an old stone bridge which carried the C&O Canal over Catoctin Creek was destroyed by Spring flooding in early June of this year.
My Good Eye:
The lost of this bridge interrupted the flow of foot and bicycle traffic on the towpath which previously could go unbroken from Pittsburg to Washington D.C.
My Good Eye:
Here you can see the stone railroad bridge carrying the railroad over Catoctin Creek - the railroad bridge previously would've been hidden behind the towpath bridge
My Good Eye:
Following the June flood and the destruction of the ancient stone bridge the National Park Service got busy trying to fashion a new way across Catoctin Creek
My Good Eye:
in October, 4 months after the bridge-destroying flood, the Park Service is busy making a new, decided lesser, bridge
My Good Eye:
By mid-October, the Park Service had made this progress in laying a new tow-path detour over Catoctin Creek
My Good Eye:
the Sunday after Thanksgiving we walked out from Brunswick to see what further progress had been made with the replacement bridge
My Good Eye:
to our amazement we found that the heavy rains from Hurricane Florence had wrought destruction upon the Park Service's attempt at a new bridge
My Good Eye:
Hurricane Florence washed away almost all of the Park Service's bridge building efforts
My Good Eye:
the new black plastic culverts and many truck-loads of gravel were all washed away by Florence
