mmechtley: Bacon
mmechtley: Snow!
mmechtley: Fannette Island in Emerald Bay
mmechtley: Shaded parts of the path were still quite snowy!
mmechtley: Pretty steep path going down from the road to the lake shore
mmechtley: Apparently the benches don't get used much when it's snowy!
mmechtley: Lots of little rivulets delivering snowmelt down to the lake
mmechtley: The shore of Emerald Bay
mmechtley: The water was insanely clear
mmechtley: The lake bottom is all sand -- this photo is actually through about 6 inches of water
mmechtley: We ate lunch on a little dock, this was the water below
mmechtley: A few fallen trees submerged in the water
mmechtley: A tour boat came fairly close, but the water level was too low for them to dock
mmechtley: Cool hand-made map of the area
mmechtley: Side of the Vikingsholm building
mmechtley: Tree in the center of the Vikingsholm compound
mmechtley: Vikingsholm architecture -- who wants to start a commune?
mmechtley: Well outside the Vikingsholm
mmechtley: Park office, closed for the season
mmechtley: Cool Norse architectural elements
mmechtley: The north-facing slopes were still covered evenly in snow
mmechtley: This fallen tree had a segment cut from the middle to clear the path
mmechtley: Canadian geese near another dock
mmechtley: Floating dock -- the water level must change significantly with season
mmechtley: The mouth of Emerald Bay, where it opens to the rest of the lake
mmechtley: Looking back toward Fannette Island from the dock
mmechtley: The geese were pretty tame, we assumed they wanted food
mmechtley: We told them to take their sense of entitlement and fuck off!
mmechtley: Some combination of polarization and CCD saturation caused the overexposed snow in this picture to look pink. Weird effect, but kind of cool I guess.
mmechtley: Tons of giant conifer trees
