mjhibbett: Beautiful. (Would be perfect if the bags were paper instead of single-use plastic!)
mjhibbett: Mountain terracing in Câmara de Lobos.
mjhibbett: All aboard the Green Train. Destination: headland of Cabo Girão.
mjhibbett: Faced my fear of heights and stood on the platform looking 590 metres down to the sea. Eek!
mjhibbett: MJH, however, was cool as a cucumber.
mjhibbett: The view from the headland back towards Câmara de Lobos and Funchal.
mjhibbett: Ooh arr!
mjhibbett: My fab eco-chic foldable backpack (perfect pressie from pal Helena) about to get its first outing on levada walk to Rabaçal, Risco waterfall and Levada of 25 Fontes (waterfalls).
mjhibbett: Steep drops, but I have no fear of heights any more following my Cabo Girão bravery! (These clever trees grow sideways - they don't concern themselves with trifling matters such as gravity.)
mjhibbett: One of many waterfalls we saw. Fab trip with Madeira Explorers - couldn't ask for better guide than Susanna.
mjhibbett: So grateful that I saw someone's comment on tripadvisor that said 'Rabaçal is a must'. What a view!
mjhibbett: Water everywhere!
mjhibbett: Our group walking on the levada maintenance path.
mjhibbett: Another fear tackled! The exit (for us) end of a long (800 metres), pitch-black* and very wet tunnel. Only just above my height in places. *We had torches, thank goodness!
mjhibbett: Back to the bus.
mjhibbett: The cable car from Funchal to Monte.
mjhibbett: The wicker toboggans in Monte.
mjhibbett: Wonderfully crazy!
mjhibbett: Took another cable car to the botanical garden, where we saw big bracken...
mjhibbett: ...and this dream view - if you're a civil engineer.
mjhibbett: Our favourite place.
mjhibbett: Verdict on tuk tuk as a form of transport: great until you set off, then really noisy! Glad we just did a short hop!
mjhibbett: View from our balcony. Word reaches us of Beast from the East II weather back home. Help - I didn't bring a coat!
