mickmassie: The Red Lion (as was). 20 Great Windmill Street. Marx and Engels lectured here, and drank and smoked. The lectures were given to the Deutsche Arbeiter Bildungs Verein (German Workers' Education Society).
mickmassie: 64 Dean Street. Marx and his family (4 children) lived miserably here in 1850. Their son Henrich Guido died here before he was one.
mickmassie: 18 Greek St. The location were the 'First International' met from 1864 to 1866, and was Peter Cook's Establishment Club from 1961 to 1964.

mickmassie: The Rising Sun, 46 Tottenham Court Road. Wilhelm Liebknecht tells the story of a boozy pub crawl with Karl Marx and Edgar Bauer up the length of TCR. This is one of the 18 pubs that existed then.

mickmassie: The Russell Street home of Marx's daughter Eleanor. She put on an Ibsen play here with Bernard Shaw among the cast. She was left a large legacy by Engels in 1895. Committed suicide in Sydenham in 1898.
mickmassie: 46 Grafton Terrace, Kentish Town. Marx and his family lived here until 1864. It seems they relied mainly on gifts and an inheritance to live.
mickmassie: Marx's last two houses were in what is now Maitland Park Road, replaced by featureless flats (with a brown plaque). He died in 1883.
