mtakanen:
I had taken a one-way train ticket to Hanko, the southernmost tip of continental Finland, and launched my boat by the beach.

Cumulus clouds had developed on mature stage and I'd see occasional lightning on the horizon.

I'd pack the sail away and continue paddling in the dark. Saw several meteors, even one with fire tail. Half Moon rose behind a small island.
mtakanen:
I had sailed over 35 km in almost 8 hours as I arrived in Jussarö. I landed on a beach East side of the island.
mtakanen:
Lightning was loud and frequent. The clouds didn't cast Moon yet. Perfect conditions for a self-timer selfie!
mtakanen:
In the morning I went exploring the island. Nowadays Jussarö is in recreational use but the marks around the island tell stories of different past.

The silo building used in iron ore mining in the 1960s. A passanger car on an island barely 1 km long.
mtakanen:
The pipeline goes under the sea on the artificial beach called "Iron Beach". The sand is waste ore stone from the mine shafts deep under the sea.
mtakanen:
The West side of the island is a strict nature reserve. One is only allowed to walk on the marked trail. Old forest is very rare in the outer archipelago.
