Local Initiatives:
Healthy foods make healthy communities. But in Kalamazoo, access to healthy foods had been difficult in low-income neighborhoods. Michigan LISC is working to ensure food is available for all residents.
Local Initiatives:
LISC partnered with the People’s Food Co-op to provide healthy, fresh, nutritious and locally-grown foods to residents of the Northside neighborhood.
Local Initiatives:
Residents now have the opportunity to support local farmers and shop for fresh organic produce.
Local Initiatives:
In collaboration with the Northside Association for Community Development, LISC supported the Park Street Market, a community-based grocery store.
Local Initiatives:
The Park Street Market ensures that a variety of fresh, safe and nutritious food is available to Kalamazoo’s core city residents.
Local Initiatives:
Our next food venture, the relocation of the Flint Farmers Market, is made possible by our new partnership with the Uptown Reinvestment Corporation.
Local Initiatives:
The relocation will double the market’s current footprint, allowing more people to be exposed to fresh, locally grown foods and educational opportunities.
