Karl Chafe:
The Fiesta Americana Condesa Cancun is a lovely, well-maintained resort. The specialty restaurants are much better than the buffet for dinner. Our favorite was the Italian. Or was it the Asian? Or maybe the Mexican? They were all good.
Karl Chafe:
View of the resort complex from my balcony. Even though this resort is quite large, it's so well designed that you can easily walk from your room to the beach or restaurants in just a few minutes.
Karl Chafe:
One of two pools at the resort. The lower pool (shown here) has a pool bar.
Karl Chafe:
The upper pool had a quieter atmosphere than the lower pool (where the pool bar is located).
Karl Chafe:
This photo shows just how wide the beach is in the hotel zone.
Karl Chafe:
The Cancun hotel zone is built on 14 miles of manmade beach.
Karl Chafe:
Talc-white sand as far as the eye can see. Because it's manmade, it doesn't hold the heat like natural sand so that you can easily walk along without burning your feet. The locals say it's air conditioned.
Karl Chafe:
Sandy beach meets spectacular surf. Paradise!
Karl Chafe:
The water can be a bit rough when the wind picks up, so you'll want to be careful with small children.
Karl Chafe:
"It's not far to the tip. Let's go for a walk - can't be more than a half hour." Three hours later...
Karl Chafe:
An example of appropriate resort wear for the specialty restaurants. Yes, I know you're jealous of my palm tree shirt.

One of the many friendly, efficient resort staff at the Fiesta Americana Condesa Cancun.
Karl Chafe:
Market 28 was a short bus ride and a brief walk from our resort. There are hundreds of booths at this flea market. We had a great time bartering with the locals.
Karl Chafe:
The perfect Luchador mask AND a Habs poncho. Life doesn't get much better than this.
Karl Chafe:
A local open-air restaurant at the end of the hotel zone. We felt perfectly safe sightseeing on our own off the resort property.

Iguana spotted during a walk around the resort.
