bubbaisme: hood-prep for paint No more stripe
bubbaisme: hood-prep for paint-- Some more hand sanding , then primer. gelcoat has some orange peel that needs flattening.
bubbaisme: hood-underside, besides 4 new layers of fiberglass cloth I added a sandwich of aluminum to stiffen hinge area. The real weakness is where the bottom curves up to the sides. needs strengthening or hood will flex badly side to side.
bubbaisme: aluminum sandwich for hood hinge area.
bubbaisme: underside of hood-getting ready to paint-3 hours of sanding. For a good finish the underside will need filler applied and sanded out to get a smooth surface.
bubbaisme: hinge mount is on right-layed up 4 layers of glass cloth on bottom and up the sides trying to stiffen up the hinge mount. I was only partially successful. It still has no strengh side to side with the hood open.
bubbaisme: inner rear fender-final trimming
bubbaisme: Moved control arm to bottom hole to get a little more clearence for brake caliper
bubbaisme: Boring stuff and dusty from fiberglass cutting
bubbaisme: Blind screws to hold grill on. Screws countersunk in FRP on the front of the scoop and filled over. There is a nut under the grill cloth to keep the screws tight and then another nut&washer to hold the grill cloth on.
bubbaisme: hood scoop new but never used. Did not look right.
bubbaisme: Old hood scoop
bubbaisme: old grill - no scoop opening. The SC gets very warm when making boost so I decided to open up scoop to blow air over SC.
bubbaisme: old grill-1/2" hardware cloth
bubbaisme: hood scoop-still want a better solution-trim is to bulky looking
bubbaisme: grill material-stainless 1/4" square woven .025" wire
bubbaisme: started as a 12" x 48" sheet
bubbaisme: grill new. Prevents rocks and stuff from getting to radiator.
bubbaisme: grill new
bubbaisme: grill new
bubbaisme: building a grill-inner flange set in nose of hood
bubbaisme: inner flange-2" wide aluminum-shaped to fit in nose of hood-wish I had a longer piece of aluminum so there would only be one splice
bubbaisme: flange with 1/2" sq. mesh inside nose-the mesh is hot glued on the flange for now-might glass it on later when I decide if I like it. Changed to 1/4" stainless cloth.
bubbaisme: painted flat black for now-you can see one of the two screws holding it on at the top inside of the nose
bubbaisme: 2 SS screws hold the whole thing in. Grill cloth is fastened to flange, flange is screwed to FRP flange w/2 screws top and bottom center.
bubbaisme: rear section and fenders with lights. Put lights in fenders to get widest look for night time driving.
bubbaisme: mounting bolts for fender-overkill?--clearance holes for protuding bolts-light lead. With all those fastners I can sit on the fender without it budging. Most of the fasteners are thru bolts w/washers and nuts.
bubbaisme: rear light after steps 1,2 & 3. I am still searching for a "correct" Brixton light for the car.
