Who would like to see a silly project involving this humble Gibson Les Paul?
Jack's Instrument Services:
Les Paul Custom stripped down ready for some serious modification work
Jack's Instrument Services:
I'm about to copy-cut the whole body to make a MDF template jig from the whole Les Paul
Jack's Instrument Services:
The Gibson LP is introduced to the table router. A specialised spiral up cut bearing bit copies the profile of the Les Paul body without harming the guitar
Jack's Instrument Services:
Here's a clue as to what's to come... Here's my MDF routing jig
Jack's Instrument Services:
The template is mounted and the Gibson is mounted into the overhead router
Jack's Instrument Services:
CHOMP the overhead router slices the new pickup routes into the carved top os the Les Paul
Jack's Instrument Services:
Yes you saw right that's four P90s to be installed into the Les Paul!
Jack's Instrument Services:
You can see the layers used in the construction of the guitar. There's the huge maple cap and underneath the mahogany body. I'm pleased with the nice sharp edges of the routs!
Jack's Instrument Services:
How do you control 4 P90s though? With 3 toggle switches of course!
Jack's Instrument Services:
I'm using the Harmony H77 for inspiration for the switch arrangement you'll see in a moment!
Jack's Instrument Services:
The three 3-way switches need some space. More saw dust needs a-making...
Jack's Instrument Services:
Heres the plan for the switches. First (Neck pickups) switch is N1 / N1+N2 / N2, second switch is N / N+B / B and (bridge pickups) lastly B1 / B1+B2 / B2.
Jack's Instrument Services:
A mini rout template is made for the pickup selector plate. I have also painted the inside of the new pickup routs black
Jack's Instrument Services:
Here's the pickup selector switches ready to go. Customised 4xP90 Les Paul
Jack's Instrument Services:
Test installing the new Schaller roller bridge and this is the first appearance of some bloody mega House Of Tone P90s
Jack's Instrument Services:
Now to wire this creation..... 3 pickup selectors, traditional volumes but we also have bass cut / bypass / treble cut switches to play with too!
Jack's Instrument Services:
More fiddling. The real chrome pickguard is modified and fitted
Jack's Instrument Services:
It's alive! The wiring is now done after some capacitor auditioning and shielding, we have a mega versatile and super unique Les Paul with 4 P90 pickups
Jack's Instrument Services:
Being second hand, the body was in a rough way. I've now buffed the living daylights out of it. The frets have been dressed and the fingerboard cleaned up (a mega pain).
Jack's Instrument Services:
I hope you like chrome! Here's the gorgeous House Of Tone p90s revealed
Jack's Instrument Services:
Matt at House of Tone pickups has wound these 4 beasts to matched spec. they also hum cancel (RWRP) so when you use Neck1 and Neck2 it's noiseless. Clever Matt

The Mighty 4P90 Les Paul project! Severe customisation complete! - Jack's Instrument Services
Jack's Instrument Services:
It's now fully set up and bloody done! Does this count as a Custom Custom Gibson Les Paul??
Jack's Instrument Services:
Mad 4 P90 Gibson Les Paul Project finished. I need a name.. Have been toying with "Quadzilla"
Jack's Instrument Services:
Help needed. What do I call my creation? Quadzilla? It certainly weighs as much as godzilla
