Jack's Instrument Services:
This is my favourite style of guitar nut. I cut the slots just to the right depth which on this guitar are also at an angle. The angle helps to reducing "binding" or sticking at the nut which is terrible for tuning problems

The Gibson J-100 - about as "jumbo" as they get!

Next on the workbench is a Gibson J-100 in for a new nut and saddle made from bone
Jack's Instrument Services:
A handsome new bone nut for a handsome Gibson J-100. Strung up and set up to perfection
Jack's Instrument Services:
Got the b******! This has been the toughest nut removal I've had to do. Normally I like to put 2 small blobs of superglue under a new nut, the strings do most of the work for you holding it on!
Jack's Instrument Services:
STILL no progress.... This Gibson's nut is ridiculously well glued in.... there's not much left of it
Jack's Instrument Services:
This Gibson J-100 nut does not want to come out. I don;t dare hammer it any harder so I will have to saw it out!
Jack's Instrument Services:
Using a scalpel to persuade an old nut out. This scores round the lacquer that overlaps the nut. If I just hammered the nut out it would chip the lacquer like mad!
