On market day, the bounty can include anything from vegetables and fruit to meat and bread.

While end of day sales are still ongoing, City Harvest volunteers are already filling their bags with the produce they were told to take.

At the end of each day, the volunteer coordinator notifies the team how many pounds of food is collected.

On a good market day, like today, City Harvest was able to collects almost 4000 pounds of food and load everything on to the truck in a couple of hours.

The GrowNYC team operates 53 greenmarkets, has over 230 family farms and fisherman and the majority of their markets accept EBT, which according to the website in 2011 exceeded $630,000.
