Final coat of tadelakt is applied and compressed/burnished with a quartz agate. Along with a special soap water treatment, this process makes the plaster rock hard and waterproof.

Yoshimi inspects the first scratch coat (Adobe plaster) for consistency and smell. It does smell earthy, as the sand came from the wash nearby. The next scratch coat will be a lime and local sand based mortar.
