Gosia007: We pulled away the center seam track in the area where we are getting a water leak in our camper and you can see the dirt and grime is getting under there (along with lots of water!)
Gosia007: Vinyl insert removed and you can see where the screw holes are for the center seam
Gosia007: This is the original RV Vinyl Insert we removed. Quite brittle from a good 17 years in the sun!
Gosia007: Here are the existing screws that were removed from the center seam of the pop-up camper's roof
Gosia007: Pop-up Camper roof repair materials
Gosia007: Here's some of the key stuff we need for the seam repair job
Gosia007: I used this paint scraper to get rid of most of the old gunk under the seam piece
Gosia007: The roof seam is cleaning up pretty well
Gosia007: Got almost all the track removed here
Gosia007: No more track at the center seam
Gosia007: Scraped away most of the old caulk and putty
Gosia007: Offset the first chalk line 2" from the holes at the seam
Gosia007: Ready to snap the second chalk line
Gosia007: Just getting started with the wire brush. Notice we're staying inside the blue lines
Gosia007: I highly recommend this wire brush on the drill trick. It saves a ton of manual labor / surface prep time!
Gosia007: Next step is to wipe the area down with acetone
Gosia007: Put Gorilla Glue on the screws for the vertical part of the roof then drive them in
Gosia007: New screws are shorter since the metal track is no longer part of the thickness equation
Gosia007: Paint removed from the seam area - used a wire brush on a drill
Gosia007: Almost done with the glue & screw operation
Gosia007: All done! No way the screws can let water through the roof now
Gosia007: Brought the Eternabond tape all the way down to the bottom of the aluminum lip
Gosia007: New Eternabond seal is in place - all done!
