A bus from Singapore brought us to Melaka (also spelled "Malacca"), a UNESCO world heritage site that reflects the influence of Malaysia's many colonizing forces (the Dutch, the Portuguese, the British, and the Japanese, among others).

We arrived in time to catch the tail end of Deepavali celebrations. Not that Melaka needs an excuse to be festive. There's a thriving nightlife scene.

This guy lives suspended above a busy intersection near the Melaka River and next to the site of the forthcoming, sigh, Hard Rock Melaka.

They're bright. And outfitted with sound systems. I'm going to guess this one blasted "Gangnam Style," since that's what most of them played. Although one whizzed by playing "Heaven Is a Place on Earth." Which was awesome.
