f8inMemphis: Across the Mississippi River from Memphis, in a field behind an abandoned country store, stands this neglected historical marker recalling a lake that's no longer there.

f8inMemphis: Spider lilies, indicating this field behind the country store in the previous post was likely an old home site. Spider lilies are an old southern flower that bloom late, usually in September. Some folks call them surprise lilies.
f8inMemphis: Symbiosis: Cattle egrets doing their thing with friends on the Mississippi River levee in Crittenden County, Arkansas, across the river from Memphis. The grazing cattle stir up insects; the egrets eat the bugs, keeping them off the cattle.

f8inMemphis: I've been everywhere, man ... but I'd never seen this early photo of Johnny Cash and Elvis, on display at McCrory's General Store in Dyess, Arkansas. Cash grew up less than a mile from this store. (See previous posts.)
