Desiree Koh: October 23, 2010. First meal in Dublin was on Temple Bar, at The Old Mill. I had a beef and Guinness stew - no, I couldn't taste the Guinness. The little puff pastry on a clump of mash was a surprise!
Desiree Koh: At the Dublin Marathon expo, over at the Royal Dublin Society. Relatively far, considering Dublin is a walkable city. It would feel even farther on Sunday, when we ran by it about 2.5 miles from the finish.
Desiree Koh: A huge wall where supporters and racers signed off.
Desiree Koh: Funny race instructions, including warning us not to do odd jobs at home the day before the marathon.
Desiree Koh: Dinner was at The Brazen Head, the oldest pub in Ireland dating back to 1198. The roast joint of the day was pork, which was decent, although a bit dry, despite the brown sauce. Oh, brown sauce! No, I did not miss you since London. But I do like the peas
Desiree Koh: A slice of Baileys cheesecake, which I soon realized you will see in every pastry case in Dublin.
Desiree Koh: We had looked forward to some live music, but "live music" in this instance meant some Baby Boomers playing bluegrass and the blues. Actually, it wasn't bad.
Desiree Koh: October 24, 2005. Twas the day before the marathon and we started out with brunch at The Elephant & Castle, where I ordered a bowl of steamed skimmed milk. It really did come in a bow, with a teaspoon.
Desiree Koh: The Temple Bar Omelet: egg whites with sausage, bacon, cheddar cheese, scallions, tomatoes and garlic. So, like, we all had to wait for Eric to finish his soup before we got our brunch platters.
Desiree Koh: Mmmm, ice cream sundae. That was pretty good vanilla bean ice cream.
Desiree Koh: The Bank of Ireland, originally built in 1729 to house the Parliament, which was voted out of existence in 1801.
Desiree Koh: Pretty cool building.
Desiree Koh: The Campanile at Trinity College. You've got to wonder how it feels to go to school where your campus is constantly over-run by tourists. Honestly, we didn't see a single student. They might have been away for the long weekend.
Desiree Koh: One of the dining halls.
Desiree Koh: Dublin Castle, which Pete decries as being too small.
Desiree Koh: Detroit thug.
Desiree Koh: The reason why Dublin Castle is small is because not all of it remains anymore.

Desiree Koh: What's interesting about Dublin is that the doors of perfectly old and historical buildings would be painted all sorts of colors, from pink and purple to yellow and turquoise, which we thought was cute and creative. These buildings - the castle's former S
Desiree Koh: A park by the castle.
Desiree Koh: Dublin Marathon Team Runnerds!
Desiree Koh: Pac-Man's revenge, because I'm too damned good at this game.
Desiree Koh: The silhouette of St. Patrick's Cathedral.
Desiree Koh: St. Patrick's Park, by his cathedral, has a Literary Walk commemorating all of Ireland's most famous writers. Pick your favorites.
Desiree Koh: I am not a James Joyce fan.
Desiree Koh: Yeats just seemed like he ought to be remembered.
