Desiree Koh:
An early celebration with the Beer Gang found us at Bedrock Grill. These oysters - SLURPALICIOUS.
Desiree Koh:
My 400g/one-pound striploin steak. Grain-fed, Australian, medium rare. Bull's eye. No, I don't need help.
Desiree Koh:
We did the mash, we did the amazing truffled mash.
Desiree Koh:
Cheez whiz! Mac & cheese was delightful, and I made sure it stayed in front of me.
Desiree Koh:
Creamed spinach for the guilty.
Desiree Koh:
Fous I've known for two-thirds of my life.
Desiree Koh:
Warm apple crumble - walnut streusel, French vanilla, Dutch apples. Yes.
Desiree Koh:
HIGHLIGHT of the night - waffle sandwich with hokey pokey (honey) ice cream. Genius. The Albert Einstein of desserts.
Desiree Koh:
The pre-birthday celebrations continue with a brunch at Braise, by Palawan Beach in Sentosa. I wish I had eaten more than just one of these warmly toasted buns, crusted with cheese and smattered with raisins.
Desiree Koh:
Seared scallop with wakame pasta - the cold noodles were refreshing and really perfectly al dente.
Desiree Koh:
Deep fried oysters with garlic aioli - good, but would have been much better as a po'boy sandwich.
Desiree Koh:
Tomato and mozzarella cheese tart with Parma. Thanks for making me miss eating in Italy once more!
Desiree Koh:
Caesar salad - not one of my favorite salads, but what a hearty rendition this was!
Desiree Koh:
Baby octopus with passionfruit and peanut dressing - not sure how the sprinkling of popcorn did anything to enhance the taste, which was already pretty good - sometimes I scoff at modern cooking just for how self-aggrandizing it can be. But the spinach le
Desiree Koh:
The soup of the day was, thankfully, not cream of mushroom, but a consomme with a wanton waiting with be discovered. A nice touch.
Desiree Koh:
The only item on the entree menu you couldn't order more than one serving of, but totally fine in its singularlity was the pan-served foie gras with caramelized apple and port wine sauce. Excellent - and the opportunity to order more than one of these wou
Desiree Koh:
Pan fried shrimp and crab cake with peanut sauce - they would have done better to have served it with a remoulade instead, maybe inflected with spice for a local spin. This, combined with the fried oysters, made me think of New Orleans (as many things do)
Desiree Koh:
A perfectly fluffed pancake that I ate with just pretty average maple syrup - no cream and strawberries for me. I did eat the few blueberries though.
Desiree Koh:
I selected a main course of sauteed slipper lobster with angel hair pasta and Thai pesto sauce. This was a double whammy - I don't like angel hair pasta (although this version not being as thin and well al dente actually made it OK) and I don't like pesto
Desiree Koh:
We shared a few platters of dessert from the selection - this was brioche toast with caramelized banana and vanilla ice cream.
Desiree Koh:
A molten chocolate lava cake with coffee ice cream.
Desiree Koh:
A cheese selection from the trolley - my choice. I was very pleased at how aged they all were - I love my cheese vile. Like a blue waffle...
Desiree Koh:
Chocolate panna cotta for the Arians! And, in my awesome Team Fatty cycling jersey, a birthday gift from LPL last year, for my first long spin on the new wheels.
