Desiree Koh: The Singapore downtown skyline at night. Happy new year!
Desiree Koh: Mmm, yum, goodness, delicious overdrive.
Desiree Koh: With the largest open terrace in Bagan and a smaller deck above, it doesn't have as many visitors as Shwesandew Paya, the long-standing favorite sunset viewing spot.
Desiree Koh: Today, we took a little road trip to Mount Popa and along the way, stopped by a little shack that I'm sure must have been constructed to siphon tourism dollars. A close encounter with an ox.
Desiree Koh: The boatmen and fishermen of Inle had a very peculiar way of rowing. By wrapping one foot around an oar, they paddled this way while maintaining balance on the other leg, freeing both hands for fishing. Amazing!
Desiree Koh: Our very spry boatman.
Desiree Koh: Samui by Archipelago, a local Singaporean microbrewery with hints of coriander and kaffir. This pilsner was a little too bitter for my tastes, but it was good for post-softball cool down.
Desiree Koh: My favorite local Singaporean bar, Brewerkz's new beer, the Steam. A California-style lager, it reminded me of Anchor Steam - a great refresher on a Sunday afternoon.
Desiree Koh: Or, take a whole chicken and stuff it with chestnuts. Toss in mushrooms and carrots, then steam until the flavor is irrepressibly complete.
Desiree Koh: Although, ya know, that's all part of having a creative licence. And yes, fellow Wildcat.
Desiree Koh: At the launch for Brewerkz's new dragonfruit/honey beer - a light (4.5& ABV), sweet, fragrant ale.
Desiree Koh: Massive hugeass Sri Lankan crab, entangled in its own treacherous web of culinary intrigue.
Desiree Koh: Amazing display of faith and devotion during the annual Thaipusam parade, where Hindus spike these contraptions into their body - up to 50 pounds or more - and walk for up to six hours.
Desiree Koh: Tennis in honor of the Australian Open men's finals. Yay Feddy!
Desiree Koh: My cousin Cheryl shared these Maple Pretzs with us - pancake-flavored Pocky, essentially. The maple taste was very fragrant, and there was even a buttery after-taste. Ah, the marvels of chemically-induced tastes.
Desiree Koh: Wish I could run as fast as this sushi!
Desiree Koh: Power bagel and English tea after swim training.
Desiree Koh: Dinner at Barracks, on the patio of an old rambling bungalow.
Desiree Koh: When you're an older chick, you do things like celebrate Chinese New Year with other older chicks.
Desiree Koh: Super Bowl pancakes! Geaux Saints!
Desiree Koh: Wine house.
Desiree Koh: The "lo hei" ritual was invented by Singaporean chef Than Mui Kai in 1964. Friends and family gather around a salad with raw fish (yusheng) and toss it together, as high as they can!
Desiree Koh: My immediate family had our own little reunion dinner on the actual eve of the holiday at local neighborhood favorite, Sin Hoi Sai coffee shop.
Desiree Koh: This year's troupe wasn't as acrobatic and flashy as the one from two years ago, but they were extremely friendly and interactive.
Desiree Koh: Every family had their picture taken.
Desiree Koh: At Irodori Restaurant for the company's annual dinner.
Desiree Koh: Hello. My name is Spaz and I sprained my ankle playing badminton.
