Desiree Koh:
Friday. Suan and friends organised a lovely night of ribs and beer to start off the weekend. I was ready to experience what everyone keeps saying is the best bar-b-que in Singapore.
Desiree Koh:
What a beautiful reunion with Sam Adams!
Desiree Koh:
It's quite hard to argue against Original Deep Fried Mushrooms and Buffalo Wings. This is a home I could get cozy in quite easily.
Desiree Koh:
We ordered two types of wings, Smoking and the Intensi-Fire. Here is the Intensi-fire; by all appearances, it seemed as if we had paid a dollar more for chilli flakes on the supposedly spicier option.
Desiree Koh:
Here is the Smoking -- neither grade was overly spicy, so we should have tried the Chef's Challenge. Still, very tasty wings, and I am satisfied.
Desiree Koh:
Here is the Memphis-style full slab of ribs. Well, I've been to Memphis several times and have had more Memphis ribs than sin allows. These were tasty by Singapore standards, and they got the smokehouse flavor right, but we needed more sauce slathered, an
Desiree Koh:
I thought we ordered pulled pork, not chopped pork?
Desiree Koh:
The Nacho Supreme. A very innovative concept of real cheese melted over the nachos, enhanced by a layer of fake cheese that never melted. So much so that we had to order a side of fries just to lap it up. Ultimate.
Desiree Koh:
Jiemo and Apollo Bobby Jean Dewdrop Han Bao Bao Tan-Gerard dig into a Smoking wing.
Desiree Koh:
Sire of Apollo Bobby Jean Dewdrop Han Bao Bao Tan-Gerard devours an Intensi-Fire wing.
Desiree Koh:
Now, Suyo.
Desiree Koh:
Here for the beer, can't say no to food.
Desiree Koh:
It's been a while since I've had a birthday cake -- this was all rich chocolate-cherry-rum goodness.
Desiree Koh:
Father of Apollo, etc. lights my fire.
Desiree Koh:
It's better when I don't have to sing.
Desiree Koh:
Ribs ripped clean + birthday cake + Sam Adams = happy camper.
Desiree Koh:
Sam Adams keeps me in the pink of health.
Desiree Koh:
Butchering a birthday cake.
Desiree Koh:
Suyo makes a point.
Desiree Koh:
Saturday. Great birthdays always include softball, so here I am at Old Rafflesians Day playing against the current Raffles Gryphons girls' team. Yes, first time in about 10 years I caught an entire game. Yes, I'm still standing.
Desiree Koh:
Vice Captain and Captain. Thirteen years and millions of beers later.
Desiree Koh:
While the Captain of the softball team takes cares of issues such as technical play, coach liaisons, P.R., equipment and gear orders, etc., the Vice Captain handles personnel issues such as menstrual cramp complaints and boyfriend troubles.
Desiree Koh:
The alums were shut out for about three innings before we finally scored a run.
Desiree Koh:
Seriously, we have the best uniforms in the country. And I'm so impressed and proud of our team. These girls throw hard and bat hard. In fact, the first batter led off the game with a home run. jesus.
Desiree Koh:
Nice pitching motion. But... can we get slow pitches next time, please?
Desiree Koh:
Sandra scored our second run.
Desiree Koh:
Nice rip, great plate mechanics. These girls may be smaller than we were, but they were spry and scrappy players. Go go Gryphons!
