Desiree Koh: Because of the tremendous crowd and waiting situation, this systematic system was established to keep everyone in check and ensure that the crowd did not get out of control.
Desiree Koh: The crabs had their own waiting area, too, except that their queue system was not quite as efficient.
Desiree Koh: This must be where good crabs go when they did. Their shells are autographed by V.I.P. diners and then varnished and hung on walls.
Desiree Koh: For a kitchen serving about 40 tables of hungry diners, it's surprisingly orderly for a coffee shop, although the bustle and clanging of woks was non-stop.
Desiree Koh: Man tous (fried sweet buns) waiting in line to be served into hungry mouths. Again, not as systematic as the human queue system, but better than the crab situation.
Desiree Koh: Soon, we will too be tearing into these pots of crab bee hoon (rice noodle) soup.
Desiree Koh: Dish #1: Cold shellfish salad. The sliced onions added some zing, a palate refresher.
Desiree Koh: Dish #2: Rojak chicken. I never imagined that fried chicken could taste so good with rojak sauce, but then again, when does fried chicken not taste good?
Desiree Koh: Dish #3: Three-mushroom vegetables. This is the kind of dish you order to feel a little better about the extravagance of cholesterol from the others.
Desiree Koh: Dish #4: Fried yam with scallop. You are watching Eling drop her yam into the dish of sweet sauce, and after she retrieved it, she took half the serving of sweet sauce with her yam thing.
Desiree Koh: Side Dish #1: Man tous, to be dunked into the sauces that come with the crab dishes.
Desiree Koh: Dish #5: Pandan leaf ribs. BBQ joints in the South Side of Chicago should think about adding this to their repertoire. It's really something.
Desiree Koh: Dish #6: Butter crab. So, I'm making my way through all this food, when Janet announced that we've only been tasting appetisers. The main courses would be the two crab dishes.
Desiree Koh: Dish #7: Seafood tofu. I felt bad for this dish because it was neglected for a while as everyone focused on the crab.
Desiree Koh: Dish #8: The famous crab bee hoon soup. As if we needed more crab, but sure, we'll take two-and-something more kilograms. The soup was amazing -- you could taste crab just drinking it.
Desiree Koh: Portions were scooped for everyone with gusto.
Desiree Koh: Chris takes a crab apart.
