DeepFriedTwinkies:
We decided to ignore this sign and tread upon trails less traveled. We were stoopid.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
You'd think that a 91 year old trail would be good enough to walk on, wouldn't you. Nope nope nope...
DeepFriedTwinkies:
So far, this looks good. Thank heavens there isn't an enormous rock slide we have to walk over....
DeepFriedTwinkies:
The earth trembled in dulcet warning to go back, go back, go back....
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Oh look. A giant rock slide we have to walk over. Fancy that.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Yeah, I admit it. I didn't want to go. Someone else was showing off her goat skillz though and shamed me into movement.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
I am fairly sure this rock slide stopped in Canada.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Halfway across.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
The Columbia river and Washington state beyond it.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Mossy rocks. These were kind enough to not cross the trail that we THOUGHT would take us to Larch Mountain.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
New from Fox. When hikers refuse to stand still. Tuesdays at 9.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
One of those pictures one takes when one is really trying to breathe and not tell anyone else.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Columbines
DeepFriedTwinkies:
We managed to hike up a mile, then down a mile, and end up back on the main road. This happened more than once. Joy.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
I wiped my hands on this plant. Amy informed me that it was most likely poison oak and that I would die a horrid death. She was thankfully wrong, but I did have ghost itches for two hours.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
One of the signs says that the Larch Mt. Trail is 1.8 miles in the direction we just came from. We are now officially lost.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
I thought it would be nice to stop and take a long long look at the pretty purple leaves. Who could argue with this???
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Arguing with this.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
We found this cute little waterfall, the name of which escapes me now. But it was sure cute.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
The people behind Amy passed us 12 times. We finally pushed them off the side of the cliff, which did manage to stop their mocking laughter.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Ansel Adams redux
DeepFriedTwinkies:
View from the top of the little bridge. If we knew what lay ahead, we would have jumped.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Little bridge from up the trail. The key word is up. An Alaska Airlines flight almost winged me.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Another breathing stop shot
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Water was falling down from the mountain. We were grateful. And probably smelled like wet moss.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Spider webs amongst the leaves.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
The view from the memorial. Note that we have once again gone way the hell up the side of the mountain. Again.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Amy decides that, wind be damned, she will go sit on that teeny little dirt spot that is sort of sitting off the side of the sheer cliff.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Luckily for Reba, no one went oopsie here.
DeepFriedTwinkies:
Another Columbia Washington shot
