CrimsonGuitars.com: But my result of the day is definetly the headstock inlays.. gnight!
CrimsonGuitars.com: And here we leave her for tonight.. the body rough sanded and the binding looking great.
CrimsonGuitars.com: The final sanding process begins, the new Robert Fripp guitar from Crimson Guitars is coming to life before our eyes!
CrimsonGuitars.com: Finally the backplates are drilled.. I really love how this is turning out!
CrimsonGuitars.com: The backplates are carefully fitted using the bobbin sander..
CrimsonGuitars.com: Very pretty.. with the clamps removed it's time to fit the backplates..
CrimsonGuitars.com: Some more design work on the new acoustic violin, new skeletal headstock and some inlay ideas..
CrimsonGuitars.com: The crimson guitars logo is engraved carefully..
CrimsonGuitars.com: The custom backplates need somewhere to sit and I glue the disks to the guitars top for this reason..
CrimsonGuitars.com: Using a plug cutter I create some 25mm rosewood disks..
CrimsonGuitars.com: The triangular ebony side markers are inlaid..
CrimsonGuitars.com: I take an offcut of ebony and whittle it into a triangular shape..
CrimsonGuitars.com: The inlays are now glued into the headstock..
CrimsonGuitars.com: The crimson guitars logo is cut from the reconstituted stone we used on the fretwood inlay
CrimsonGuitars.com: After the inlay has been cut out with a jewelers saw I scribe around it with a scalpel blade and fill that cut with chalk.
CrimsonGuitars.com: The next inlay is the silhouette of a crow in flight.. for obvious reasons done in ebony..
CrimsonGuitars.com: The new crimson guitars Robert Fripp guitar is one piece now, and currently weighs just four lbs!
CrimsonGuitars.com: One perfectly aligned neck is glued in place and left to cure overnight.. the body lost 1 1/2 pounds during routing!!
CrimsonGuitars.com: The neck pocket is tidied up by hand with a sharp chisel...
CrimsonGuitars.com: More routing.. the spring chamber for the tremolo.. this guitar has lost a lot of weight!!
CrimsonGuitars.com: The cavities are predrilled with a forstner bit on the pillar drill...
CrimsonGuitars.com: The routing begins..
CrimsonGuitars.com: The pickup cavities and neck pocket are marked onto the body.. it's refreshing not having a neck attached at this point!
CrimsonGuitars.com: The control cavities are the last to recieve their binding..a single strip of maple..
CrimsonGuitars.com: The les paul is pretty pointy where the neck and body meet so I cut an angle and face it in maple..
CrimsonGuitars.com: The heel inlay is finalised and glued in..
CrimsonGuitars.com: Back with the new Robert Fripp guitar after some much needed rest..
CrimsonGuitars.com: And this is where we leave it for now.. the neck and body look great together!
CrimsonGuitars.com: The binding on the top is planed down now, the effect is well worth the effort.
CrimsonGuitars.com: Crikey that was a bugger to do.. and only half way there!!
