CrimsonGuitars.com:
Finally the bookmatched rosewood top is carved.. tomorrow this guitar comes together!
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The neck is also carved now.. a slim, fast and comfortable carve for Roberts guitars.
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The frets have their ends snipped off and profiled and the fretboard is looking lovely!
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The end piece to fit at the bottom of the guitar is marked out..
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The control layout, sustainer, MIDI ,piezo and magnetic is marked out and drilled.
CrimsonGuitars.com:
I mark around the body onto the book-matched rosewood top.. white pencils are very very useful!
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The clamps come off the body and trhe excess glue scraped away.
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The wings and various veneers etc are glued up.. this is going to be one gorgeous guitar!!
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The headstock wings are prepared..
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The frets are in! A milestone in any guitar build.
CrimsonGuitars.com:
I cut the frets slightly oversize and nips the tangs so the fret overhangs the binding a little..
CrimsonGuitars.com:
After sanding the fretboard down we see the 'red dino bone' inlays in their splendour.. straight lines.. who knew?
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The black oozing gluey mess is filed away from the fretboard revealing some stunning looking, but simple, inlays
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The back and sides come together, much glue, much mess but so much fun! I love my job!!!
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The other back plates are cut out and the back is ready to glue to the ribs..
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The control access point is cut from the back, I'll be using the piece as the cover so the grain matches.
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The rosewood back has its shape roughed out on the bandsaw..
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The clamps are removed from the kerfing and it is planed flush with the sides...
CrimsonGuitars.com:
Finally the kerfing is all glued in using these lovely baby clamps rescued from a boring life attached to iv drips!
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The kerfing, I'm using a violin makers style of kerfing, is bent and clamped to the sides..
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The ribs and tone block assembly are taken out of the body jig..
CrimsonGuitars.com:
Finally the inlays are glued in..
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The inlay cavities are roughed out with the small Proxxon router..
CrimsonGuitars.com:
I carefully mark around the inlays with a scalpel blade and fill the line with chalk.
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The inlays are ready.. I love the simplicity of the straight lines here..
CrimsonGuitars.com:
I make a start cutting the simple inlay strips from this piece of reconstituted stone..
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The neck.. the binding is all in and looking great.. inlays next I think.
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The second rib is glued in place now and the guitar is slowly coming together..
CrimsonGuitars.com:
One of the sides is glued in place.. and I breathe a sigh of relief!
CrimsonGuitars.com:
The second, much more challenging side is bent.. talk about concentration!
