broox: Here's the weird little living room nook that we'd decided would eventually house a turntable and a bunch of records.
broox: First order of business: hue lights.
broox: Once the hue lights were installed, this area became known as the "selfie booth"
broox: It's time.
broox: Starting the bottom record shelf...
broox: Starting shelf 2...
broox: Instead of a box with a shelf and a divider inside, I made 2, full length horizontal shelves that are fully supported by the sides and divider. This way there's no chance of the heavy records causing any kind of sagging.
broox: Shelves assembled, testing out the initial fit
broox: Trying to decide on the format for the top... A recessed turntable? Or just a flat top and an exposed turntable.
broox: Gettin excited
broox: I ripped down some 3/8" x 3/4" strips of solid oak to face the inner shelves.
broox: Inner shelves faced
broox: I added 5" supports to the bottom to be able to conceal my Sonos connect and pre-amp below the unit.
broox: A close-up of the faced shelves
broox: Boxes stained up! This dark, alkyd stain is really a pain in the ass to work with on pre-assembled pieces.
broox: 4-coats of poly applied.
broox: Ready to hold some records...
broox: For the top, I scribed a strip of plywood for each side, tacked them together and then used that as a guide to cut the removable lid.
broox: Transferring scribe lines to the lid
broox: Top scribed. Happy with the fit.
broox: Top faced with holes drilled to conceal the wires of a Technics 1200.
broox: Workshop selfie
broox: Bottom cut, sides scribed.
broox: Everything cut... Time for more stain.
broox: Top stained
broox: Trim stained before installation
broox: Sides and top installed! The top is removable, everything else is nailed and glued
broox: The preamp, Sonos connect, and the hub for my security cameras all hide behind a removable toe kick.
broox: Stocked and ready to play! We just need more vinyl.
broox: The nook. Next: some kind of floating shelves. Still trying to decide on a format for those...
