Smoking Bees. by puffing a little smoke into the hive, bees will think there's a forest fire & gorge on honey (a survival mechanism), which makes them sleepy (& easier to work with).

The big (right) is the Queen. she has one big sex-fest where she'll get impregnated by 20+ drones (males), collecting enough 'fertilizer' to lay eggs for the rest of her days.

In order of importance: Bee Eggs/Larvae occupy the center, where it's warmest (#1), then Pollen (food) surrounds the eggs (#2), and finally Honey fills the outermost combs (#3).
